Sensor Consulting Case Studies

Acquiring point cloud data from various LiDARs assumed to be installed in vehicles and verifying SLAM accuracy

We receive requests to install the system on various customer-owned vehicles for verification. In preparation for verification on customer-owned vehicles, we build the same sensor configuration as that planned for installation on Macnica-owned vehicles as necessary, and conduct sensor verification with fewer failures. This example shows a state of pre-verification conducted for SLAM verification on a special vehicle in a large area with few feature points.

LiDAR verification assuming infrastructure installation

In recent years, LiDAR has been used not only in vehicles, but also in infrastructure applications for vehicle and pedestrian detection.
In this case, we are verifying point cloud data from LiDAR installed at a high position, assuming it will be attached to a smart pole or utility pole, and verifying the accuracy of the detection software.

Comparative verification of LiDAR in rainy, dense fog, and dusty environments

When considering implementing a system using LiDAR outdoors, in addition to normal environments such as sunny and cloudy days, it is necessary to verify the system in anticipated environments such as rain, thick fog, dust, etc. Macnica conducts verification in various environments according to customer needs, and the image below is an example of LiDAR verification in a rainy environment.

Verification of stopping position detection function using stereo camera

Although stereo cameras have poor distance accuracy for distant targets, the closer the target is, the better the accuracy becomes. Below is an example of a verification test of a stop position detection function that takes advantage of this feature.
