Compact, integrated edge computer for measuring datain diverse fields

The collection of mobility data from motorcycles, automobiles, AGVs, AMR robots, outboard motors, and other vehicles is becoming increasingly common. However, when collecting data from automobiles for autonomous driving, or retrofitting data from motorcycles, robots, and ships, the reality is that it is difficult to secure installation space. For this reason, we have begun offering the EDGEPLANT R1, a small, vehicle-mountable edge computer. It makes it easy to measure mobility data and promotes the introduction of vehicle development and mobility monitoring and operation.

What is the small edge computer EDGEPLANT R1?

EDGEPLANT R1 is a compact edge computer device that is palm-sized and equipped with a variety of sensors and measurement interfaces, and is equipped with Aptopod's "Terminal System OS 2" operating system, which is optimized for use with intdash. It offers excellent performance as an IoT terminal, making it easy to install and measure in all types of mobility, including cars, motorcycles, robots, and small boats, where installation space is limited.

Built-in functions of the compact edge computer EDGEPLANT R1

・2-channel CAN input/output
・LTE communication module
・GNSS function
・3-axis acceleration sensor ・3-axis angular velocity sensor
- 4-channel analog input (single-ended)
・Vibration and shock resistance required for in-vehicle equipment*
- Automatic start/stop linked to external signals (IG, etc.) and CAN wake-up
- One Ethernet port and three USB ports for communication with external devices
- Compliant with JASO D 014-3:2014 "Test X-Spring (Vehicle Body) Mounting Device"

Application fields of the small edge computer EDGEPLANT R1

・Commercial vehicles such as automobiles, motorcycles, buses and trucks
・Heavy machinery, construction machinery, agricultural machinery
・Robots, AGVs, ships, etc.

Combining intdash and EDGEPLANT R1 to build an integrated management system with advanced data stream control

Features and Value of the EDGEPLANT R1 Compact Edge Computer

EDGEPLANT R1 size: 84mm x 95mm x 28mm (excluding protrusions and mounting plate)

・Compact and lightweight in-vehicle edge computer
- Rich interface
・Power supply control possible by signal
・Smooth intdash integration

・Can be installed on any object or location
The number of installation locations will increase, not only for passenger cars but also for commercial vehicles and ships. Even in passenger cars, it can be installed in very limited locations such as on ships or when there is no space available for installation due to other precision equipment. This increases the degree of freedom in installation.

・Data you want to acquire from vehicle measurements can be obtained with one small HW
Data that is generally required for vehicle measurement, such as CAN, camera, GPS, and analog signals, can be acquired with a single small HW.

・Power supply control linked to vehicle signals reduces measurement effort
By linking with vehicle IG signals and CAN signals, the time and effort required to power on/off the HW and the measurement start/end process can be reduced.

・Link with intdash to instantly check and analyze data
By linking with intdash, we have achieved both real-time delivery and reliable data transmission to the server.

Aptpod Inc.'s implementation track record

Aptpod Inc. (founded in 2006, headquartered in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director and President: Junichi Sakamoto) is an IoT software/services company specializing in fast data (high-speed time-series data) for industrial IoT, providing communication protocols. The company excels at providing comprehensive frameworks that enable high-speed, large-volume data collection, transmission, high-speed real-time processing, and event processing in industrial settings.

It has been used by over 150 companies, primarily automobile, construction machinery, and robot-related manufacturers, in over 300 projects.
Main use cases include remote vehicle data collection and analysis, remote monitoring and diagnosis of MaaS-related systems, and remote control of construction machinery and robots.

FAQ

Q. What types of connection methods are available for the communication infrastructure?

A. There are several ways to do this, such as installing a communication module and inserting a SIM card, inserting a dongle into a USB port, or connecting an Ethernet port to a router.

Q. Can I obtain CAN-FD certification?

A. CAN-FD is not supported. It must be obtained via a separate interface such as USB or Ethernet.

Q. Is the OS Terminal System 2 only ?

A. Currently, we only offer the proprietary OS "Terminal System 2" that is applied to intdash.
