CPO Switch (Co-Packaged Optics Switch)
What is a CPO switch?
CPO switches are a next-generation network switch technology that integrates an ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) for data switching and an optical engine for handling optical signals within the same package.
Traditionally, optical transceivers were plugged into external ports on the switch, and signals were transmitted via long cables. However, CPO places the optical function right next to the chip. Furthermore, it eliminates the need for DSP (Digital Signal Processing), which was required for conventional optical transceivers.
