Microcontroller built-in Wi-Fi products (Hostless)

Product Summary

Qualcomm Hostless products are a product group for IoT devices that have a CPU/memory for applications (some of which are shared with Wi-Fi) on the SoC and can operate as an SoC alone.
By communicating with external sensors and the host MCU through peripherals, various data can be sent and received. The network communication protocol is implemented inside the SoC, and it can be shared and reused as a Wi-Fi communication module, which contributes to cost reduction. For software development, the SDK (open source) provided by Qualcomm supports the customer's development environment. In addition, Qualcomm's own brand module equipped with this product has also been released and is available.

Qualcomm Hostless products are ideal for users who want:

- Need for power-efficient Wi-Fi for battery-powered devices

- I am not satisfied with the communication bandwidth of the Bluetooth I am currently using (I want more communication bandwidth/I want to connect directly to the IP network instead of via my smartphone)

- Network processing should be completed within the Wi-Fi chip

- A small amount of communication data is sufficient (sending and receiving: several Mbps to several tens of Mbps)

- To save power, I want to put the host MCU to sleep and wake the host only when necessary by receiving packets from the Wi-Fi chip

Such

Three common benefits of the Qualcomm Hostless product line

1. CPU/memory built-in, capable of operating as a standalone SoC

2. Cost reduction through standardization and reuse of Wi-Fi communication modules

3. SDK (open source) supports your development environment

lineup

Currently released are two types of chipsets for IoT devices:
QCC730 - Ultra-low power consumption in BLE class -
QCC74x  - Tri-Radio supports three wireless methods and is compatible with Matter -

QCC730 -BLE class ultra-low power consumption-

The Qualcomm QCC730 is a 1x1 Wi-Fi 4 transceiver that offers ultra-low power Wi-Fi, scalable flexibility and ease of design. Selectable power modes and innovative power management dramatically extend battery life for battery-powered and energy harvesting IoT devices. It also features an open source SDK that supports cloud connectivity offload, providing a direct-to-cloud alternative to traditional Bluetooth-only applications.

The chip is powered by an open-source SDK available on CodeLinaro and comes with the Qualcomm® Connectivity Integrated Development Environment based on Microsoft Visual Studio Code (VSCode). A VSCode extension plugin specific to the QCC730 is also available as open source and can be customized for the QCC730. Size- and cost-optimized modules and associated development kits are also available through Qualcomm Authorized Design Centers to support quick time to market.

(*Can also be operated from an external microcomputer)

・Open Source SDK included

- AT command support

QCC74x -Tri-Radio supports three wireless methods and is compatible with Matter-

Qualcomm QCC74x is a tri-radio chipset that integrates Wi-Fi 6 (1x1), Bluetooth 5.3, and IEEE 802.15.4 (Thread and Zigbee compatible), with a 32-bit RISC-V MCU up to 325 MHz and stacked memory (pSRAM and NOR flash). Unlike other similar chipsets, the all-in-one design with a high-performance 32-bit RISC-V processor (including FPU and DSP), diverse on-chip functions, multimedia capabilities, and 35 GPIO-enabled peripherals reduces costs and improves performance. It is an attractive single-chip solution for IoT edge devices.

QCC74x can operate without an external MCU, running protocol stacks and IoT applications independently, and provides a FreeRTOS-based open source SDK and VS Code-compatible development environment to accelerate IoT app development. It can also act as an IoT connection transceiver with an external host.
