Altera's Cyclone ® V FPGAs deliver optimal performance and the industry's lowest system cost and power to differentiate high-volume applications. It offers up to 40% lower total power consumption than previous generations, efficient logic integration capabilities, as well as SoC FPGA products with built-in transceiver products and ARM-based hard processor systems.

Cyclone® V Family Varieties

The Cyclone® V family consists of six products:

FPGA

  • Cyclone® VE (logic only)
  • Cyclone® V GX (with built-in 3.125 Gbps transceiver)

SoC FPGAs

  • Cyclone® V SE SoC FPGA with ARM®-based Hard Processor System (HPS)
  • Cyclone® V SX SoC FPGA with ARM-based HPS and 3.125 Gbps transceivers
  • Cyclone® V ST SoC FPGA with ARM-based HPS and 6.144 Gbps transceivers

SoC FPGA – customizable ARM processor-based SoC

SoC FPGAs reduce system power consumption, system cost, and Provides board space reduction. The combination of HPS and Altera's 28nm low-power FPGA fabric offers application-class ARM processor ecosystem and performance with the flexibility, low power, and low cost of Cyclone V FPGAs.

Cyclone® V FPGAs are manufactured on TSMC's 28nm LP process, delivering the performance required for cost-sensitive applications while reducing power consumption and cost.

  • Up to 40% lower total power consumption compared to Cyclone® IV GX FPGAs
  • Lowest power serial transceiver (88mW max power per channel for 5 Gbps transceiver)
  • Over 4,000 MIPS (Dhrystones 2.1 benchmark) with less than 1.8 W power consumption (SoC FPGA)
  • More hard IP (Intellectual Property) blocks for even lower power consumption

Cost savings also come from being able to operate with only two power regulator voltages and being offered in wire-bond packages, including small packages.

Cyclone® V FPGAs incorporate numerous hard IP blocks that enable product differentiation while lowering overall system cost, power consumption, and shortening design development time. Key hard IP blocks include:
