What is Astra Machina?
The Astra Machina Foundation Series Evaluation Kit is an evaluation board that allows easy and quick development and testing of the Synaptics SL Series of embedded IoT processors. It supports interchangeable computing modules (Core Modules) on a common I/O board and features daughter cards for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, debugging, and flexible I/O.
In this article, I will unbox Astra Machina and take a closer look at its appearance.

Packing box
It comes in a stylish outer box in Synaptics' corporate color blue.

This is what's inside the box. The board is carefully packed, protected by black cushioning material. The AC adapter may not be included due to PSE certification.
Top of the unit
Here is a top view of the main unit. Astra Machina consists of a Core Module, an I/O board, and additional daughter cards that can be added as needed.
Body side (front)
Here's a photo from the front side. There are four USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one 1000Base-T RJ45, one USB Type-C, one HDMI TX, and one USB Type-C for power.

This photo was taken from the left. You can see the Micro HDMI v2.1 Rx port on the upper Core Module, and the MIPI-CSI2 on the lower I/O board.

Finally, here is a photo of the back side. The PCIe M.2 E key can be used to mount wireless modules such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
