(hereinafter referred to as Okaya Seiritsu Kogyo), Macnica 's original brand semiconductor strain sensor "STREAL We would like to introduce the clamp-type load cell that utilizes "STORIAL" that was exhibited.

What is Japan Manufacturing World?

Japan Manufacturing World is one of Japan's largest manufacturing exhibitions. Companies from around the world dealing with IT, DX products, parts, facilities, equipment, measurement products, and more exhibit at the event, engaging in lively business negotiations with people from a variety of fields, including design, development, manufacturing, production technology, purchasing, and information systems. This year's event was held at Makuhari Messe.

Introducing clamp-type load cells using STREAL

At Okaya Seiritsu Kogyo's booth, a clamp-type load cell currently under development was exhibited, combining STREAL with a monitoring device. This load cell calculates load from the strain on link rods, pipes, etc., enabling equipment failure detection, preventive maintenance, and maintenance timing prediction. In addition to providing sensor technology, Macnica is also supporting application evaluation, including prototype evaluation, demonstration test design, and performance verification.

System configuration

★Application to hydraulic actuators (butterfly valves) Clamp-type load cell (patent pending)

・Loads are applied to the link rod and pipes when the butterfly valve opens and closes.
・STREAL is a sensor that is attached directly to a metal surface and is installed with adhesive on the flat part of a link rod or pipe.
- Connect to the measurement unit via a flexible board or cable
・STREAL detects minute strains on link rods and pipes, converts them into electrical signals, and calculates the load.

Its greatest feature is that anyone can easily install it and it enables real-time measurement including wireless communication. As an application example, an exhibit was also held in which this load cell was installed in a hydraulic actuator that drives a butterfly valve.

*Link rod: A rod in a mechanical mechanism that is connected to other parts and operates in this way.
*Butterfly valve: A valve that controls the flow of fluid by rotating a circular disc.

How to read the data

The force history applied to the butterfly valve when it is opened and closed is displayed in a graph, allowing for the detection of abnormalities and diagnosis of the condition.

Normal: The graph rises and falls in a consistent pattern
When friction increases or foreign matter is mixed in: Unexpected strain peaks and delayed return are observed.
Aging: Baseline distortion gradually increases

Real-time strain measurement

Summary

Conventional clamp-type load cell measurement methods use strain gauges, which require specialized technicians to attach them and process the data. However, by using STREAL, anyone can easily install and measure, solving the conventional problems. Development is currently underway to commercialize the product, and it is expected to be used in a wide range of fields, not just in valve equipment and construction-related applications.
