Overview of debugging techniques

Learn how to debug Microchip non-volatile FPGAs. There are roughly two types of debugging tools, and we will introduce their functions and how to use them.

SmartDebug

Up to two arbitrary flip-flops in the FPGA fabric can be freely output to dedicated terminals (PROBE_A, PROBE_B) and observed externally with an oscilloscope. SmartDebug can be used on a licensed PC. On the other hand, SmartDebug Standalone Mode can be used without a license. Therefore, for example, design and development can be performed on a licensed desktop PC, and debugging can be performed on a notebook PC that does not require a license.
