Silicon Labs Bluetooth: What is Network Co-Processor (NCP) Mode?

A mode in which the Bluetooth® module is controlled via a serial port from an external host system (microcomputer or PC). I think each company calls it differently, but SiliconLabs calls it Network Co-Processor (NCP) mode.
