Automotive IPD (Intelligent Power Device) Product Overview
Infineon's IPDs (Intelligent Power Devices) have a history of over 30 years and have a proven track record in use in many automotive applications.
Our product lineup mainly consists of the PROFET™ series of high-side switches, the HITFET™ series of low-side switches, the SPOC™ series of multi-channel high-side controllers, and the SPIDER series of multi-channel switches and controllers.
Please see the links below for an introduction to each product.
High Side Switches - PROFET™ Series
High-side switches can be used as an alternative to mechanical relays in junction Box, power distribution Box, heater applications, lighting applications, and to drive DC brush motors for small pumps. In addition to being a simple switch (MOSFET), IPDs also have protection circuits against overcurrent and overheating, which means that they can continue to function as a switch even in abnormal conditions such as short circuits without being destroyed, and so many IPDs are actually used in cars.
Infineon offers a lineup of high-side switches for a wide range of applications, current values, and battery voltages.
Low Side Switch - HITFET™ Series
Low-side switches are primarily used in heating applications, lighting applications, and valve control. We offer a lineup of low-side switches as the HITFET™ series for 12V and 24V battery environments, and all HITFET™ series provide protection against overload, overvoltage, short circuit, overheating, and electrostatic discharge (ESD).
Multi-Channel SPI High-Side Controller - SPOC™ Series
The SPOC™+2 series of multi-channel SPI high-side controllers are primarily designed to address applications such as door locks, heated seats, interior lighting, and even e-bike lighting and power distribution loads. They feature additional configurable protection functions that can be applied to each channel individually, including state-of-the-art features such as short circuit and overload protection, as well as configurable overcurrent detection, which can be configured with either limited restart or immediate latching. Control, configuration and diagnostics are performed via SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface), reducing the MCU pin count and making the solution more flexible, while fail-safe modes are also supported, making the operation safer.
Multi-Channel SPI Switch & Controller - SPIDER Series
The SPIDER series of multi-channel SPI switches and controllers are highly integrated multi-channel SPIdrivers suitable for driving low current loads such asrelays, solenoids,LEDs, small light bulbs, and stepping motors. In addition to the latest SPIDER+ series, the SPIDER series also includes the SPIDER+LED series, which adds functionality for driving small light bulbs and LEDs. In addition to the fixed number of high-side and low-side switch channels, it also offers multiple configurable channels, making it a highly flexible product.

In fact, many automobiles use IPDs (Intelligent Power Devices) such as high-side switches, but we have prepared a page introducing what an IPD is, its features, and examples of use, so please take a look.
In addition, IPDs are increasingly being used in place of mechanical relays and mechanical fuses, and this article will explain the advantages of using IPDs, the applications for which they can be used, and some of their diagnostic functions.
