The ALS31300 3-axis linear Hall effect sensor IC provides a 12-bit digital output word proportional to the magnetic field strength on each of the X, Y, and Z axes. The quiescent output value (when the magnetic field is zero) is the center of scale. The ALS31300 is shipped pre-configured in joystick mode, which includes push-down functionality or single-ended X, Y, and Z modes. The single-ended configuration of the device is suitable for 3D linear or 2D angle sensing applications and is factory programmed for the following sensitivity operating ranges: Sensitivity temperature coefficient is pre-programmed to accommodate the drift profile of the neodymium magnet.

The ALS31300 features an I2C interface, making it easy to integrate into a wide range of applications. The I2C address can be programmed via external resistors (16 addresses) or programmed into the EEPROM via I2C (127 addresses), allowing multiple devices on the same bus. The ALS31300 also has 78 bits of user EEPROM.
The ALS31300 enables robust joystick designs, replacing potentiometer-based joystick modules. Magnetic joysticks are thinner, consume less system power for battery-powered applications, and support joystick wake-on-motion. With a back-bias magnet, the ALS31300 allows for magnetic return to zero, i.e. joystick removal.
The ALS31300's highly configurable power management allows system-level optimization of supply current and performance. In sleep mode, the ALS31300 draws only 14nA (typ.), making it ideal for battery-operated portable applications.
The ALS31300 is available in a 10-pin 3mm x 3mm x 0.8mm DFN package (“EJ”). This space-saving package has a lead-free, 100% matte tin-plated leadframe.
