Product Summary
The ACS72981 series of current sensor ICs provide an economical and precise solution for AC or DC current sensing. The 250kHz bandwidth makes them ideal for motor control, load detection and management, power supply and DC-DC converter control, and inverter control. The response time enables overcurrent fault detection in safety-critical applications.
The device consists of a precision, low offset, linear Hall circuit with a copper conductive path located near the surface of the die. Current passing through this copper conductive path generates a magnetic field which is converted into a proportional voltage by the Hall IC. The accuracy of the device is optimized by the proximity of the magnetic signal to the Hall transducer. A precise proportional output voltage is provided by a low offset chopper-stabilized BiCMOS Hall IC that is factory programmed for precision. A proprietary digital temperature compensation technique significantly improves the accuracy of the zero output voltage and output sensitivity over temperature and lifetime.
The output of the device increases with increasing current through the primary copper conductive path (terminal 5 to terminal 6) used for current sampling. The internal resistance of this conductive path is typically 200μΩ, allowing for low power losses and high power density in applications. The sensor employs a differential sensing technique that virtually eliminates output disturbances due to common-mode interfering magnetic fields. The thickness of the copper conductive path allows the device to survive high overcurrent conditions. The terminals of the conductive path are electrically isolated from the signal leads (pins 1 to 3).
The device is fully calibrated before it leaves the factory. The ACS72981 family is lead (Pb) free. All leads are plated with 100% matte tin, with no lead (Pb) present in the package. The thick lead frame is made from high-purity oxygen-free copper.
