Overview
What is a strain sensor?
This is a sensor that measures strain (= the amount of deformation (expansion, contraction) of an object). By knowing the strain, it is possible to estimate the force applied to the object. It is attached directly to objects such as metal and can detect minute changes.
What is the semiconductor strain sensor STREAL?
Macnica brand's STREAL semiconductor strain sensor is an ultra-compact, highly accurate, and low-power semiconductor strain sensor. Conventional large-scale strain measurement systems have been integrated onto a semiconductor chip measuring just 2.5mm square, significantly improving ease of integration into equipment. To ensure smooth integration into customer equipment, the sensor is supplied in a module format equipped with a semiconductor chip. STREAL is available in two series. The SR300 series features low power consumption, a measurement resolution of 1με, and a small chip (2.5mm square), making it suitable for a variety of applications, including IoT. The SR500 series is ideal for industrial machinery requiring precise control, such as robots and machine tools.

Evaluation kit configuration
Macnica offers an evaluation kit that allows you to immediately begin initial evaluation and PoC of STREAL. The evaluation kit itself is common to both the SR300 and SR500 series, and by adding an SR500-compatible conversion board, it can be flexibly used with both series. Using the evaluation kit reduces risks and hurdles in the initial evaluation stage, allowing you to smoothly proceed with operation checks on the actual device.
