Introducing ON Semiconductor's new T30HM1TS2500, a product that integrates the PHY and MAC for 10BASE-T1S.

Product Summary

The T30HM1TS2500 is an Ethernet transceiver with a built-in IEEE 802.3cg-compliant MAC/PHY. Its effective throughput in PLCA mode is approximately 9.5 Mbps.

This product consists of a CSMA/CD MAC and a PHY with physical layer collision avoidance (PLCA) functionality. By arbitrating the transmission timing with PLCA, collision detection operations that rely on CSMA/CD are minimized, resulting in high throughput.

Because this product has a built-in MAC, it differs from the conventional T1S PHY+RMII/MII in that it uses SPI (maximum clock speed of 25MHz) as the interface for direct connection to the MCU.

We will now explain the new features in detail.

Wake-up/Sleep Inhibit

This low-power architecture uses MAC-PHY to autonomously control the external power supply via INH, monitoring only the LIN / Wake input at 35uA or less during sleep mode, and immediately restoring to full power when an event occurs.
By minimizing power consumption during standby while maintaining only the necessary wake-up detection, it meets the low standby current requirements of applications such as automotive systems where constant VBAT connection is assumed.

SQI / SQI+: Signal Quality Index

This function measures the signal quality of a communication segment (cable).
You can measure the noise present in a segment at any node on the network.
When the segment is healthy, a data transmission speed of approximately 9.5 Mbps can be obtained.

On the other hand, noise is present in the segment, especially in the signal amplitude. 50% That's all (1Vp-p) In cases where it reaches such a level, BER (The bit error rate) is expected to increase.
This feature is a diagnostic tool that allows the node itself to autonomously evaluate the signal quality of a segment, and is capable of doing so to the greatest extent possible. 32 Quality can be evaluated in stages. Also, in real time EMC This makes testing possible.

This indicator
- Prediction of link failures
- Determining the need for maintenance (e.g., deterioration of parts due to age, crushed or broken cables, presence of noise sources)

It is useful for things like this.

SQI has an 8-level resolution, while SQI+ has a 32-level resolution.

Topology discovery

This measures the distance (calculated from propagation delay) between each node on the same segment (same cable).
This is useful for identifying the physical location of nodes on a network.
Furthermore, even if devices have the same model number and settings, their installation locations can be distinguished.

PLCA Diagnosis

The PHY can automatically detect not only whether the PLCA is "communicating or not," but also "why something is wrong."

The following is what is reported in the PLCA diagnosis.

- Detected an unexpected beacon ( Reported only by the coordinator) ⇒ Multiple PLCA coordinators exist.

-BEACON detected before the transmit permission slot ⇒ Node count setting is incorrect.

- A receive occurs during your own send slot Duplicate Node ID

HDD: Harness defect detection

Harness Defect Detection (HDD) monitors the behavior of differential signals using a 10BASE-T1S PHY.
This function automatically detects"physical wiring defects"such as short circuits and faulty terminations in the harness.
