Analog Devices offers 3-axis acceleration sensors (ADXL362) that can be used in low-power applications. We provide industry-leading low-power motion detection that is especially suitable for portable applications such as wireless sensors, measuring devices, and home healthcare, where battery life is of paramount importance.
This time, we will introduce a demonstration of using an ultra-low power consumption 3-axis acceleration sensor (ADXL362) as a motion switch. When vibration is detected, power is supplied to a doll and a sound is played.
Flow of demo operation
① Apply vibration
② Vibration is detected by a 3-axis MEMS acceleration sensor (ADXL362) ⇒ an interrupt signal is generated
③ Turn on the enable signal for the high-side power switch (ADP195) to supply power to the doll.
④ Sound comes from the doll
Easily reproduce the demo environment with two evaluation boards!
This demo can be easily replicated with just two boards.
Analog Devices provides reference designs based on practical circuits as Circuits from the Lab™. The demo uses the EVAL-CN0274-SDPZ circuit board, which detects motion with a 3-axis MEMS accelerometer (ADXL362) and uses it as a trigger to realize a motion switch with a high-side power switch (ADP195) that can control a load current of up to 1.1 A.
The EVAL-SDP-CS1Z and the CN0274 evaluation software are also used to capture the data from the EVAL-CN0274-SDPZ.
The two boards, EVAL-CN0274-SDPZ and EVAL-SDP-CS1Z, have 120-pin mating connectors, making connection easy.

Motion switch example design is ideal for ultra-low power applications
The combination of the ADXL362, which has low power consumption features, and the ADP195, which has an integrated P-channel MOSFET with low on-resistance to reduce power dissipation, is an ideal configuration for applications that require long battery life.
Power consumption when switched on/off is very low.
- Switch OFF: Current drawn from battery is less than 300 nA
- Switch ON: current consumption less than 3 μA
If you are looking for a motion switch with low power consumption, this is the product for you.
