W77Q improves security for IoT connectivity applications with cryptographic components that require cybersecurity.

Winbond Electronics, a leading global supplier of semiconductor memory solutions, announced on November 3, 2021 that its TrustME ®  Announced that the W77Q Secure Flash has achieved FIPS 140-3 Automated Cryptographic Verification Test System (ACVTS) certification.

FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) 140 is a set of security standards published by the US government that specifies security requirements for evaluating cryptographic modules. This standard applies to all institutions using cryptographic-based security systems to protect sensitive information in computer systems and telecommunications systems. FIPS 140-3 is the latest FIPS 140 standard and is aligned with international ISO/IEC standards.

FIPS 140-3 ACVTS is NIST's Cryptographic Algorithm Validation Program, which provides validation tests for approved cryptographic algorithms and their constituent components. Lab-tested and NIST-validated algorithm implementations are added to the appropriate Validation List with vendor name, implementation, operating environment, validation date, and algorithm details.

Ashit Vora, co-founder and vice president of Acumen Security, said: "Acumen Security congratulates Winbond Electronics' W77Q TrustME® Secure Flash Memory on obtaining the Cryptographic Algorithm Validation Program (CAVP) certificate. This certification ensures that the cryptographic algorithms used is implemented in accordance with their respective standards. We are honored that Winbond Electronics has chosen Acumen Security as their security certification partner and we look forward to assisting them in their future certification efforts. I am looking forward to
“By passing FIPS 140-3 ACVTS and being on the CAVP list, W77Q is certified as a NIST-recommended cryptographic algorithm and its constituent components,” added Winbond.

W77Q's superior security offers a built-in hardware hash function (SHA-256) that is used to encrypt several functions such as:

・Communication channel
・Encrypted read/write
・Data integrity protection
・Secure firmware OTA (Over-The-Air)
・Root of Trust (RoT) function

TrustME ®  W77Q Secure Flash has been certified to Common Criteria EAL2+ and ISO 26262 ASIL-C Ready by SGS Brightsight and SGS-TÜV Saar GmbH respectively. Now that the W77Q is FIPS 140-3 ACVT certified, it provides absolute peace of mind for any IoT connectivity application that requires cybersecurity measures.
