New Product PIC18Q84 Family

To meet the demands for high bandwidth and flexible data rates in evolving automotive applications such as safety and communication, and to support the development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), Microchip Technology Inc. (Japan corporation: Tokyo) Hamamatsucho, Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan, Yosuke Yoshida, hereinafter Microchip, today announced the PIC18 Q84 family, the first PIC18 microcontrollers (MCUs) to support CAN FD (Controller Area Network Flexible Data-Rate) communication. With a variety of CIPs (Core Independent Peripherals) that can handle different tasks without CPU intervention, the PIC18 Q84 family saves time and money connecting to CAN FD networks.

8bit MCU specialized for automotive

This family is a simple solution for sending sensor data to the CAN FD bus without gateways or sophisticated network switching technology. In addition, CIP makes it easy to create near-zero latency hardware-based custom functions for automotive and industrial designs. No additional code is required. Peripherals such as a 32-bit CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check Code) generator with automatic memory scan, Windowed Watchdog Timer (WWDT) for functional safety, and Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) interface for industry standard test/debug implementation is built-in.

Prepare development environment

Provides hardware and software support for the PIC18 Q84 family. Hardware includes the Curiosity Nano development board, the Curiosity HPC (High Pin Count) development board, and plug-in modules (PIMs) that can be used with the in-vehicle network development board. Software supported by MCC (MPLAB® Code Configurator).
