Features of the optical pulse wave sensor "BH1792GLC"
BH1792GLC is an optical pulse wave sensor provided by ROHM. Compared to the conventional product (BH1790GLC), it can measure pulse waves up to 32 times faster, making it possible to measure stress and blood vessel age that require high-speed sampling.
Power consumption is the lowest in the industry at 0.44mA (when measuring pulse rate). Contributes to long battery-powered applications.
The BH1792GLC has the following three major features, which are explained below.

By realizing high-speed sampling of "1024Hz", which is up to 32 times faster than conventional products, it is possible to measure complex vital signs such as stress and blood vessel age.

2. Can be used in environments with intense movement such as sports, and in environments where infrared rays such as sunlight are strong.
Equipped with ROHM's original optical filter, the influence of disturbance noise such as infrared light and red light is reduced to 1/10 or less. This enables high-precision pulse wave measurement even in environments with strong infrared rays such as sunlight and intense movement such as sports.
3. Industry's lowest power consumption contributes to long-time operation
The low power consumption of the pulse wave sensor and microcomputer enables the application to run for a long time. The low power consumption is 0.44mA (when measuring the pulse rate), which is the lowest class in the industry.
Evaluation kit for developing BH1792GLC
An evaluation board "BH1792GLC-EVK-001" is available for easy evaluation of the BH1792GLC.
Evaluation can be easily started by connecting to the general-purpose microcomputer board "Arduino Uno".
This board is ready for evaluation by following the steps below.
First, prepare the following:
- 1 Arduino Uno
- 1 PC with Arduino IDE installed
- USB cable
- 1 SHIELD-EVK-001 (SensorShield board)
- One BH1792GLC-EVK-001 (evaluation board)
*SensorShield board is included as part of the SensorShield-EVK-003 kit.
1. Device connection settings
Connect and set up the Arduino Uno, SensorShield board, evaluation board kit, and PC.
2. Write the sample program to Arduino
Turn on the power and write the sample program to Arduino.
* The sample program can be downloaded from ROHM's website.
* Write the sample program via Arduino IDE and start operation.
3. Start measurement by placing your finger on the board
Place your finger as shown below and start measuring your pulse.
4. Check the pulse wave measurement results
You can check your pulse wave on your PC.
