JANOG45 Meeting in Sapporo [Event Report]

Macnica and Macnica exhibited at JANOG45 Meeting in Sapporo.

In this article, I will introduce how I participated as an exhibitor.

Hokkaido was hot this year!

This time's location is Sapporo, where snow is falling from January 22nd (Wednesday) to January 24th (Friday), 2020. Macnica Macnica exhibited at the 45th JANOG (JApan Network Operators' Group) 45 Meeting.

The theme of this year's JANOG45 is "360° Connect".
Recent JANOG Meetings are attended by a wide variety of people regardless of industry and occupation, and the number of participants from overseas has increased.・It was a theme aiming for a meeting where we can discuss in depth about "operation".

Until the day of the event, I was worried that the weather would have a big impact on the number of visitors. I was.

Macnica booth was an eye-opener!

Under such circumstances, we exhibited the following products at our booth in order to realize open networking with a high degree of freedom in 360 degrees.

  • 3 white Box switch companies (Mellanox, Delta, Stordis)
  • 3rd Party Optical Transceiver Module (II-VI(Finisar))
  • I2C Live Diagnostic Module (Multilane)

As an example of open networking, we made a panel of LINE's adoption case and showed it to everyone.

Since this was the first exhibition since Finisar was acquired by II-VI last year, the familiar Finisar logo was not present in the II-VI exhibition space, and the slightly fashionable II-VI logo was in the foreground. I had an exhibition that I put out. Some people find it strange that the logo resembles the logo of a certain cosmetics manufacturer, which is surprisingly popular among women. So…” said one person with deep emotion. We also welcomed many visitors who came to our booth and learned for the first time that long-distance transmission of 100G can be realized inexpensively using CWDM4 instead of LR4, which is standardized by IEEE. I was able to convey various information inside.

Among them, there were many scenes where AOC (Active Optical Cable) with Connectivity Diagnostics function was eye-catching.
In ordinary exhibitions, the optical module is just mounted in a switch, and most people ignore it because it doesn't move and it's not interesting (laughs). This time, when the pull tab part is pushed while the module is mounted on the switch, the pull tab of the module connected to both ends of the AOC blinks. This makes it possible to visually identify the connected module even in the so-called "spaghetti state" cable wiring, which is useful during maintenance! There were many people who had the scales dropped from their eyes.

Full of charm of Hokkaido! Social gathering of capacity over

At the social gathering held on the night of the 23rd, the number of participants who wished to participate greatly exceeded the expected number of participants. It was carried out while connecting the main venue and another venue with a relay.
The night in Hokkaido started with a toast of Sapporo beer, and more than dozens of local Hokkaido wines and sake were served, making it a feast filled with the charm of Hokkaido.

The atmosphere was very homey, different from the exhibition hall, and I think that the power of alcohol was combined with a deeper interaction between the participants.
There are many people who are already familiar with us, and once again I realized the deep and wide network of Network Operators.

Next time JANOG46 will be held in "Summer Okinawa"

Of course, we at Macnica will also be exhibiting, so we are looking forward to meeting many people in Okinawa!
