Do Aruba Networks wireless LANs require a mobility controller?

Some lineups do not require a mobility controller. An instant access point has a virtual controller built into the access point itself. (Example model numbers: IAP-205-JP, IAP-215-JP, IAP-225-JP, IAP-325-JP, etc.)

I heard that there are LIC-AP, LIC-PEF and LIC-RFP licenses for Mobility Controllers. What is the difference?

  • LIC-AP
This license is required to host access points on the Mobility Controller. Please purchase licenses for the number of access points to be accommodated.
  • LIC-PEF
This license is for using the firewall function of the Mobility Controller. We recommend purchasing the firewall function because it is used for policy control by roles.
  • LIC-RFP
This license is for using the wireless IDS and IPS functions of the Mobility Controller. Please purchase as needed.
