Macnica 's AI team exhibited at the "AI/Artificial Intelligence EXPO" held at Makuhari Messe for three days from October 26, 2022 (Wednesday) to October 28, 2022 (Friday).

During the exhibition, we gave product explanations and presentations of InnerEye's "Sense I" and "Sense Plus," which we handle, as well as a demonstration of electroencephalogram measurement for customers who visited our booth. Due to the great success, we were able to have more than 70 customers experience the demo in three days.

“Real experience” sought by visitors to AI/Artificial Intelligence EXPO

AI/Artificial Intelligence EXPO is Japan's largest exhibition specializing in artificial intelligence, exhibiting AI-related services such as deep learning, machine learning, edge AI, natural language processing, image/speech recognition, and dialogue AI. The attraction of this exhibition is that it is a place where people from all industries can come and have lively business negotiations and comparative studies through "experience and experience" in a real place. Combined with the "XR Comprehensive Exhibition" and "Metaverse Comprehensive Exhibition" held at the same time, the total number of visitors exceeded 30,000 over the three days.

This was Macnica 's AI team exhibiting for the third time, and the booth was the most exciting ever, with so many customers visiting that they forgot about the coronavirus pandemic.

Customers who visited the booth were interested in things such as "I want to know the latest information about the AI business, which is rapidly being implemented in society" and "I want to hear an explanation about AI models that use brain waves." So, when I explained about our products while actually having a conversation with them, many of the customers said, "I wish I could incorporate EEG AI into their own workplaces," and gave me a realistic image of how it would be implemented. .

Customers who experienced the electroencephalogram measurement demo said that they were able to experience the accuracy of the data acquired from electroencephalograms, saying, "I was able to feel that the actual results matched the actual results, and the operation image was excited." is.

Artisan techniques taught by brain waves

Among the products that were proposed during conversations with customers at this exhibition, we will first introduce the platform "Sense I" that realizes the succession of craftsmanship skills.

By measuring the brain waves of experts, so-called professionals in the field, we inherited as an AI model the advanced technology that can be called "craftsman's intuition" that is difficult to verbalize, which is required for visual inspection of defective products and dangerous goods inspection. It is a product that makes it possible.

Many of our customers in the manufacturing industry were interested in the proposal of this product because they were worried about the lack of human resources in the field and the difficulty of transferring know-how from veterans to young people. However, in the explanation of building an AI model that can make the same judgments as an expert, the most questionable point for the customer was, "Why do we use brain waves?"

In order to answer this question, I explained while watching the electroencephalogram measurement demonstration that was being carried out at any time in the booth. The image below is the measurement result of the experiencer collected in the actual demonstration.

In this demo, we measured the brain waves during the so-called inspection, in which we asked people to look at images of lemons in various states, and if they saw a rotten lemon, they counted it in their minds. . This labeling work (=annotation) is done without using hands while looking at the images projected at a pace of 2-3 frames per second.

In the image above, the red line represents the waveform of the electroencephalogram that determined that the displayed lemon could not be shipped, and the green line represents the waveform that determined that it could be shipped.
Each waveform moves up and down little by little at any time, and the amplitude may suddenly change greatly. Each movement of the waveform represents the "confidence" felt by the experiencer when viewing the image, and the waveform information is instantly labeled for each image. This is perhaps the greatest advantage of using brain waves to build AI models.

It is possible to build an AI model just by collecting image data, but EEG gives human certainty to the image data, making it possible to collect data that can withstand general-purpose operations in the field. In other words, AI can learn not only 0 or 100 judgments, but also data with human-specific ambiguities such as 20% and 80%.

Even customers who initially had doubts about the relationship between brain waves and AI were convinced of the benefits of using brain waves, such as the ease of annotation work and the realization of high-performance AI models that can withstand on-site operations, through demonstrations and tours.・I was able to sympathize with you.

However, customers in some industries, such as the manufacturing industry, are not the only ones who can realize the benefits of EEG AI. In addition, brain wave AI has the potential to be active in many fields.

Real emotion analysis with EEG

The next product I would like to introduce is Sense Plus, a platform that analyzes human emotions and mental states from the state of the brain and visualizes them as numerical data in chronological order.

Many of the visitors to our booth took questionnaires from monitors in order to obtain customer feedback during the development stage of products and services. However, there are cases where customers do not remember what they felt on the spot even if they are asked later in the questionnaire, and cases where they feel uncomfortable writing their true feelings in the questionnaire. They seemed to be having trouble getting accurate information. In addition, some visitors in medical and nursing care settings were looking into ways to read the emotions of people who find it difficult to communicate on their own.

For such people, we made proposals for products while experiencing and observing another type of demo prepared this time.

This is a demonstration that identifies emotions from changes in brain waves when shown images that move emotions, such as images of cute animals and silhouette images of a man holding a knife. As a result of electroencephalogram measurement, it is possible to visualize emotional movements such as concentration, interest level, and fatigue over time.

In the image above, the blue line represents concentration and the pink line represents fatigue. The movement of the waveform varies depending on the experiencer, and it is possible to visualize which video you are concentrating on and how long it takes to get tired. Customers who experienced the demo said, "I was unconsciously concentrating on videos that I thought I was not interested in," and "I felt so tired as time passed." It seems that he was surprised to notice the "unconscious" feeling that he had not experienced before.

As the people who experienced this time felt, the senses that each person has continue to move in areas that even they themselves cannot comprehend. Despite the fact that it is even more difficult to convey that feeling to people, many companies seem to be struggling without noticing this problem.

"coe365" was born by feeding back the realizations obtained from EEG measurement to stationery. It is a stationery brand with a new concept of writing a QR code on unique stationery with different colors and illustrations, and listening to "emo sounds" that match each illustration scene.

When listening to each "emo sound", what kind of emotion is born and how it changes, was verified by electroencephalogram measurement, and the result was used as evidence for promotion.
At the exhibition booth this time, we handed out these stationery items as novelties to customers who experienced the demo, and we were able to receive as much popularity as our booth.
