Chapter 1Trade World-Class Technology

Onishi

First of all, could you all tell us why you decided to join Macnica?

Hayashida

I graduated from a science university, and when Macnica, a trading company, came to a company information session held at my university, I was attracted by the bright atmosphere, which was different from the manufacturers I had seen up until then, and that's what sparked my interest. Then, when I actually went through Macnica 's selection process, I felt that all the employees I met were proud of their work and "enjoyed their work." During interviews and meetings, they were considerate and considerate to me, and I was very attracted to the people aspect of the company, so I thought "I definitely want to work here!" and decided to join the company.

Onishi

Many people at Macnica take pride in their work and enjoy their work! Why did Mr. Tokita join Macnica?

Tokita

There are two main reasons why I chose Macnica. One is that you can learn many cutting-edge technologies. As someone like me who likes new things and has a strong thirst for knowledge, Macnica was very appealing as it offered me the opportunity to come into contact with many of the world's most cutting-edge technologies. A research position at a manufacturer requires you to pursue one field to the fullest, so I thought Macnica was a good fit for me. Another thing is that there are opportunities to do business with companies around the world. Most of the suppliers that Macnica does business with are overseas manufacturers. I was attracted to the opportunity to do business globally and expand my horizons, rather than working in the limited environment of the Japanese market.

Onishi

It's true that many people who want to work in engineering consider working for a manufacturer, but the two points Mr. Tokita mentioned are unique to Macnica, which is a technology trading company.

Hayashida

I would like to add to Mr. Tokita's comment: I believe that the major difference between Macnica and manufacturers is that they do not "create technology" but "spread technology." It is important to ``tell'' and ``communicate'' to customers how wonderful the product is.

Onishi

That's a really good comment. I think of Macnica as a company that sells technology. Of course, it is also important to deepen your technical knowledge. But that alone is not enough for business. We need to properly convey to our customers the benefits of the products we sell.

Tokita

You're right. Before joining the company, I was only thinking about mastering the technology, but after joining the company, I realized that it is important to think about how customers can use it. No matter how good your product is, if you don't understand the customer's needs and make proposals, you won't be able to get them to use your product. It's a really difficult job. By the way, Mr. Onishi, why did you join Macnica?

Onishi

When I was a university student, I used to spend all my time doing research in a laboratory, but I felt that it was a bit different to make it my life's work. I wanted to do a job where I could interact with people even though I was involved in cutting-edge technology.

Hayashida

It's Macnica only choice!

Chapter 2The Joy of Running at the Forefront of the World

Onishi

When I asked them why they joined the company, Tokita-san came up with words like "cutting edge" and "world". Do you feel that you are actually in contact with the world's most advanced technology in your work?

Hayashida

There are many! For example, we are one of the first to come into contact with technology that is almost unknown in the market, and conduct unprecedented verifications in the world. The feeling of coming into contact with technology that has yet to catch up with the times is so interesting that it cannot be expressed in words.

Tokita

I understand very well. There is a lot of pressure to be the first to experience cutting-edge technology before anyone else in Japan, but it is a lot of fun, and I find it rewarding as an engineer. One of the real pleasures of this job is being able to communicate directly with the supplier manufacturer who developed the technology. We sometimes receive requests such as, "Can you evaluate the new product we have developed and give us feedback?" It's a really exciting job, where new things are born and you can be involved in the technology before it hits the market.

Onishi

I'm also happy to hear that Mr. Tokita is doing an exciting job (lol). The great thing about Macnica is that it has a wide range of connections to engineers, marketers, and even investors in Israel and America's Silicon Valley. I think one of the reasons why Macnica does so much overseas business is that we often receive requests from them to spread the cutting-edge products they have developed and invested in in Japan. We predict future trends and if we determine that a product is useful, we bring it to Japan as soon as possible. I feel that the business we do is actually ahead of the world.

Hayashida

Macnica has a lot of trust in the Japanese market from overseas suppliers! I was surprised when I joined the company.

Onishi

Because Macnica does a lot of business with supplier manufacturers who develop cutting-edge products, we often rely on our customers who are having problems that cannot be solved with conventional technology. There are very few companies in Japan that handle such cutting-edge technology from around the world.

Tokita

Because we have built long and strong relationships of trust with these supplier manufacturers, the world's leading engineers often communicate with young Macnica employees on an equal footing. If you think about it carefully, it's an amazing thing that you don't often experience at other companies!

Chapter 2Go Beyond the Frame, Enjoy the Challenge

Tokita

The work at Macnica is difficult and the environment requires many challenges, but are you able to take on new challenges, Hayashida-san?

Hayashida

To be honest, before I joined the company, I wasn't very good at taking on challenges (lol). However, the people at Macnica all support me in my challenges, so I can stay positive and think, ``Let's take a step forward.'' I have now developed a strong sense of challenge. My boss and senior colleagues at my company helped me develop my mindset.

Onishi

Actually, like Mr. Hayashida, I was not good at taking on new challenges. But Macnica no one has anything negative to say. The great thing about Macnica is that it's common for people to say, ``It looks interesting, so why not give it a try?'' Nowadays, I work with an awareness of ``going outside the box.''

Hayashida

"Out of bounds". Good words!

Onishi

Mr. Tokita, as a manager, do you have any ideas for encouraging team members to take on challenges?

Tokita

"I will take responsibility for the member's failure" and "I will trust the member and entrust the work". I believe that it is important to create an environment in which members are trusted, delegated authority, and acted on their own initiative, rather than having them do only what they are told. And I think that it is precisely because you think things through on your own and do your work that pride as a professional is born. Each member's work with pride leads to good results in the end.

Onishi

It is true that delegating authority encourages members to take on challenges, which creates a positive cycle and naturally creates professional pride. I think the two of you have already experienced it by joining Macnica, but it is important to take on challenges repeatedly, not just once. And accumulate success experiences. Then you realize, ``Ah, taking on a challenge is fun.'' This process is very important.

Hayashida

Recently, I have been mainly in charge of focused projects that are directly linked to large sales. It will be a more responsible environment than before, but I would like to be conscious of repeating challenges!
