There are many male employees in my team, but there are also many fathers who have experience raising children. I often went on business trips, but after I got pregnant, there were some members who cared about me, saying, "Is your body okay? In my case, when I got married, my boss consulted me about my future life plan, so when I found out I was pregnant, he was very happy, and he immediately set up a system for handing over my duties!

You've been talking about private matters on a daily basis! How did you handle the transfer of duties when you went on maternity leave?

In my department, instead of handing over all of the work to one person, it was a method of temporarily handing over to about 10 people. I was happy to feel that I was leaving a place for myself to return to, and I am very grateful that many people took over the work I was in charge of! Thanks to that, I went on maternity leave with the vision of doing the same job after returning to work.

Even after returning from maternity or childcare leave, I am very grateful to be able to take on the same tasks as before or new challenges. The system of maternity leave and childcare leave is very important for women to continue working. There are many women in the departments I manage, but I want my subordinates to feel free to take maternity leave and childcare leave, and to return to the company with peace of mind.

The hourly leave system that allows you to get paid every hour is very helpful for raising children! I use it when I have to temporarily leave work to attend an event at my child's nursery school or to pick him up.

Kiuchi

It is a blessing for mothers to be able to work from home. Since I started using telework to improve my productivity, I no longer have to go to the office every day. Since I don't have time to go to the office, I can finish my work sooner, and I can go to the nursery school immediately from home, which is very helpful.

Hosokawa

The environment is becoming easier for working mothers to raise their children! And I think the good thing about Macnica is that the company takes into account the working styles of its mother employees. Back when the work-from-home system was not yet in place at the company, a group of female employees, including myself, whose children were about to enter elementary school, once expressed their concerns to their superiors.

At that time, in my department, there were many mother employees whose children were just entering elementary school. After hitting the "wall of 1st grade", many mother employees said, "Even if you want to work, it is difficult to balance work and family."

I've heard of the "first grade wall", but what kind of problem was it?

When a child who went to nursery school becomes elementary school, it becomes even more difficult for moms to balance home and work. Compared to when I left my child at a nursery school, there are more events that parents have to participate in, such as class visits and PTA activities. So I asked my boss at the time to set aside some time for me to discuss my worries about balancing family and work. Then, when the company was considering introducing a telecommuting system, my boss shared our opinions with the company and worked with HR on various matters. Of course, the main purpose of introducing the telecommuting system is to improve productivity, but after considering our opinions, the results system was introduced, so please take our thoughts into account. I am very grateful to my boss and company.

Have you returned to full-time work after maternity leave?

Kiuchi

I was able to work from home and take time off, so I returned to full-time work.

I also tell people who are returning from maternity and childcare leave that if they take advantage of the new system, they will be able to have more flexibility even when working full-time. Thanks to telecommuting and the hourly leave system, it is possible to balance work and family with full-time employment even if you do not return to short-time employment.
