Mr. Shiraishi has been with the company for almost two years. Could you please tell me why you decided to join Macnica in the first place?

Shiroishi

I wanted to work globally, so when I was looking for a job, I narrowed my selection to trading companies. The deciding factor for me to join Macnica was that it was a leading semiconductor trading company. I wanted to work in an industry that would continue to grow, and Macnica which has one of the top market shares in Japan in the rapidly growing semiconductor industry, was very attractive to me.

Takeuchi

I see. Before joining the company, Mr. Shiraishi did not want to be assigned to the Innovation Strategy Business Headquarters, which is working on new businesses.

Kashiwara

If Mr. Shiraishi was in charge of human resources, he must have decided that he would be able to carry out the mission of launching a new business.

Shiroishi

I'm sorry to say this myself, but to be honest, I feel very tense when I am assigned to a department where many people move after gaining experience in the semiconductor and security/ Network business segment. Well then.

Why did Mr. Kashihara choose Macnica?

First of all, I was attracted to being evaluated fairly, not by seniority. I felt that it was good that the achievements, abilities, and motivation were seen fairly, rather than being promoted in order from seniors.

Kashiwara

After all, it's the company culture. There were a lot of really nice employees at Macnica, and the atmosphere within the company was bright and friendly. One of the factors that made me decide to join the company was that through the selection process, I was able to get a feel for the atmosphere where I could enjoy working.

Shiroishi

One of Macnica 's major attractions is its people. When I joined the company, I felt that everyone was cheerful, happy, and working with energy. When Mr. Takeuchi and Mr. Kashihara joined the company, the Innovation Strategy Business Headquarters had not yet been established, and I hear that both of them were very active in the semiconductor division. Why did you apply for a new business under such circumstances?

Takeuchi

Like Mr. Shiraishi, I had always wanted to work in a global environment before I joined the company. In my previous department, I was in charge of sales for semiconductor supplier manufacturers, and I had opportunities to speak English in the course of my work, but I wanted to be involved in a job that required a more global approach. I am now mainly in charge of business related to the autonomous driving vehicle, but there are many overseas manufacturers in Silicon Valley and Israel that are developing technology for autonomous driving, and there are many cases where I have to communicate directly with them while conducting business with them. I volunteered for the Innovation Strategy Division because I thought it would better fulfill my wish to work globally, which is what I wanted to do.

Because I wanted to be particular about "creating" a business. Of course, the semiconductor business I was working on at the time was something I could take on, but as the name suggests, departments working on new businesses are departments that “create” completely new businesses. I jumped in, thinking, "This is it!"

Chapter 2Self-Growth is Directly Linked to Business Success

Mr. Shiraishi, is there anything that you find difficult when you actually work?

Shiroishi

Of course there is! Mr. Kashiwabara said that he would "create" the business, but since it is necessary to build it up one by one, starting with how to proceed with the business, there are many areas where he is fumbling around, and it is all hard work! Especially in my first year after joining the company, there were many things that bothered me because I didn't know what to do (laughs).

Kashiwara

That's right. If I were a new graduate and I was in the same position, I think I would have been at a loss.

Shiroishi

However, because the scope of work is not defined, I have been able to have experiences that are unique to this division, such as getting my boss to accept my proposal and learning the marketing activities necessary for business. I think.

Takeuchi

I see! What do you find rewarding about your work?

Shiroishi

Above all, it's the fact that I'm given the opportunity to take on new challenges. I deal with production simulation software that allows manufacturing customers to verify the effectiveness of installing new equipment before it is installed, and when I was put in charge of this product, it had been less than a year since Macnica signed a trading contract with the supplier. There were almost no people in the company who had knowledge of this product, so I, a new employee, was entrusted with planning sales promotion activities and sales strategies. I find this exciting situation, where the business launch won't go well unless I grow, very rewarding.

Takeuchi

Macnica truly has a culture of delegation of authority. We have an environment where young people are entrusted with big tasks and are encouraged to take on challenges. Mr. Shiraishi joined the Innovation Strategy Business Headquarters as a new graduate and has been progressing through various trials and errors, so I think the speed of his growth is amazing.

Kashiwara

Also, since the market in the field we are challenging is new, there is also the chance to become a leading player in the industry. One of the real pleasures of our work is the fact that we are the first in Japan to achieve such achievements.

Takeuchi

Mr. Kashiwara, just like Mr. Shiraishi, you are in charge of business for customers in the manufacturing industry.

Kashiwara

We have a chance to change the future of the manufacturing industry in Japan. As you all know, the working population is decreasing in Japan. The strength of Japanese craftsmanship is the seriousness and attention to detail unique to Japanese people. We have to put a knife into the current situation where the number of people with such technology is starting to decrease. We have a solution that can solve it with technology, so how can we spread it to our customers in the Japanese manufacturing industry? This is a big challenge.

Takeuchi

That's certainly true. And in all developed countries, a decline in the working population will occur at some point. We will now take the solutions and business models we pioneered in Japan and roll them out overseas. I believe that Macnica, which has the strength of its global network, can accomplish these things, and the role we play may be of great importance to the world as well.

I am in charge of maximizing the profit of the business. The business we are working on is directly linked to solving social issues, but we are still in the phase of upfront investment, so we would like to contribute to the company in terms of numbers in the future.

Takeuchi

In the future, we would like this to become the third pillar of Macnica 's business and grow profits on a par with our semiconductor and security and Network business segment!

I really want to boost the Japanese manufacturing industry. Japanese customers have excellent technical capabilities, so we would like to support them to improve their operational efficiency and further strengthen the Japanese manufacturing industry.

I will spare no effort to achieve my goals. It is often said that effort is more about "quality" than "quantity", but when doing something new, you can see the "quality" by how much you have done with the "quantity" of hypothesis testing. "Quality" cannot be demanded when "quantity" is small. Even in that aspect, I don't think I'll betray the "quantity" in the end.

Takeuchi

Both of them are amazing. As Mr. Kashihara says, I also want to expand Japan's excellent technology overseas, also in the sense of supporting Japanese companies. Macnica 's main business is selling overseas technology to the domestic market, but it's the opposite.
