Chapter 1Take Advantage of Your Vacation for Your Family

Karasawa

Today we're talking about daddy employees who have children, so these three have been gathered.

Toda

I have a son who is 1 year and 10 months old. She was just born last year and is in full bloom.

Izaki

I have two children. My eldest daughter is 4 years old and my eldest son is 1 year old. It was hard when my first child was born, but raising two children is even harder. You are busy with childcare every day (laughs). I think Mr. Karasawa already had a child who was 10 years old, right?

Karasawa

I have a 10-year-old eldest daughter and a 6-year-old second daughter! My eldest daughter was born when I was a student.

Toda

You have a child who was born before you joined the company! That was new to me!

Karasawa

Oh yeah (lol) I have a really good memory of announcing to my co-workers, “We have a baby!” on the day of the informal ceremony!

Izaki

This was good news even before I joined the company! Even in Macnica 's long history, isn't Mr. Karasawa the first new graduate employee to join the company with a child?

Karasawa

I think that's probably true (lol) The trip to Hawaii with my family right after I joined the company was a lot of fun! At Macnica, there are many people who value time with their families, and before the trip, my boss told me, ``Enjoy it with your family!'' and I thought, ``This is a company full of kindness.'' Tayo!

Toda

After all, spending time with family is important. I think it is important to take a moderate amount of vacation for the happiness of the family. I took childcare leave for a month when my first son was born, and it was really meaningful. I was able to give my wife a rest because she was weak after giving birth, and above all, spending time with my first born son was exceptional!

Izaki

It's better to take childcare leave if possible for your family! In my case, my wife gave birth at home and my wife's parents helped with childcare, so I managed somehow without taking childcare leave. Growing up is really hard.

Toda

Macnica has an atmosphere that encourages fathers to take childcare leave, which is great! When I talked to my boss about taking childcare leave, he replied, ``Of course you can!'' I'm really grateful.

Karasawa

Of course, it is a major premise that the company and team members will not be inconvenienced even if you take a vacation, but the family is an irreplaceable existence, so father employees should not hold back. I want you to make the most of your maternity leave!

Chapter 2Parenting Actively, Not Actively

Karasawa

People sometimes say, “Dads should actively participate in childcare, too,” but I think that expression is a bit wrong. The expression "participation" sounds like a way of thinking in which the mother is the main body of childcare and the father participates in it. Dads want to actively raise their children together with their moms!

Toda

I think so too! So, I try to make my work as efficient as possible and try to find ways to make time for childcare.

Karasawa

There is a real feeling that ingenuity in business is now required more than ever! The evolution of online tools triggered by the corona crisis has made it possible to work smoothly even from home. In the case of telecommuting, I can use the time I travel to the company or customers to do other work, so recently I've been trying to make good use of telecommuting and going to the office to increase productivity.

Izaki

I am also working from home to improve my work efficiency! Working from home has allowed me to finish my work faster than before, so I can bathe my children and feed them more often.

Toda

Since I started working from home, I have been able to send my child to nursery school in the morning. In my case, it takes me two hours to commute to and from work, but since I don't have time to travel, I have more time to spend with my children.

Izaki

Effective use of telecommuting has made childcare so much easier, but the reason telecommuting is possible in the first place is because Macnica is working as a company to improve operational efficiency. I think the company's efforts to change the way they work have been made possible by adopting digitalization of stamping and signing documents, and by building a system that allows them to maintain and improve productivity without everyone having to come to the office.

Karasawa

That's exactly right! One of the ideas that Macnica values is "innovation." Based on the idea that ``if you work in the same way for years, there is no 'innovation,''' we are constantly updating our work methods in line with changes in the external environment. I think that the environment in which it is easy to work has been developed.

Toda

I strongly believe that in order to achieve a better balance between childcare and work, we also have to review the way we work, starting with one thing!

Chapter 2I Want to Be Cool and Admired by Children

Izaki

I always think that the growth rate of children is remarkable! When I see my child quickly become able to do things that I couldn't do before, I think, ``I can't lose myself,'' and ``I can grow even more.'' I feel that having a child has increased my motivation to work.

Karasawa

Totally agree! Children's absorption is amazing. There are many times when I think, "Since my young child has grown so much, I have to work harder!"

Izaki

And children pay close attention to what their parents say and do. I often imitate "that's what my dad said the other day!" I've come to think that I have to be careful about my daily behavior, and in fact, this is common to work as well. Several years have passed since I joined the company, and I am now in a position where there are many juniors.

Toda

There are many ways in which being noticed by a child can help you in your work, and having a child can give you the energy to work. Since it's a big deal, may I ask the two seniors about their future goals as dads?

Izaki

I want to be someone that my son looks up to, just like my father did to me! My father was an energetic person who worked hard, and even as a child, I thought, "I want to be like Daddy!" Childcare is of course important, but I want to embody the ideal image of a father by balancing childcare and work!

Karasawa

I think it's great! I also look a little like Mr. Izaki, but I want to be a dad that my daughter thinks is cool. To that end, I think it's important to show children that they are positive and willing to work on both, rather than focusing on either childcare or work. Mr. Toda?

Toda

I would like to create a "soil" where children can grow autonomously. This is because I believe that providing an environment in which children can grow up freely without depending on their parents will lead to their happiness. I believe that creating a "soil" for growth is a necessary element for managers in the company, so achieving this goal may have a positive effect on my career in the future. (laughs)

Karasawa

Caring for your child will help you acquire skills that you can use in your work, and actively working will help you realize your ideals as a father. I think that both are really important things in life, so let's work positively without neglecting childcare and work!
