Splunk ".conf (dot conf) 2016" participation report DAY3

2017/10/10

I participated in Splunk's global user conference ".conf 2016" held in Orlando, Florida, USA from September 26, 2016.

It's the third day.
Today I'm going to participate in a session on DevOps and IoT that I'm interested in.
The keynote speech on the third day was IoT, but it was the demonstration of "Smart Soldier" that had an impact. It was about getting sensors from soldiers' combat uniforms on the battlefield and supporting wounded soldiers. When I actually asked the person in charge of IoT at the venue, it seems that data is collected using a satellite line. I thought that Splunk is strong in big data, as expected, where there are already examples of IoT utilization.

There was a presentation by Dunkin' Donuts as an example of "smart retail" as an analysis of mobile coupon applications. Free donuts were distributed before the lecture. It was delicious. In the example of Dunkin' Donuts, 70% of sales are via smartphones, so I thought that smartphone coupons and real-time measurement are essential solutions for the retail industry.

As for the operation monitoring system, there was an announcement about the acquisition of Docker data with Splunk. This will make it easier to monitor operations in increasingly complex virtual environments.

Before entering the room for each session, hold your smartphone up to the entry badge. The badge contains an IC tag, and after reading it, the data is immediately sent to Splunk. With barcodes, tallying takes time, but with this system it's real time.

The data can be viewed in real time on the dashboard of the exhibition booth. You can see how many people are currently participating in the session. As someone who regularly gives lectures, this data is of interest to me.

The data is displayed in the floor plan of the venue, which uses Splunk's premium app, ITSI's Glass Table feature. ITSI makes your Splunk visualizations much more readable.

This is the SBOX booth of GEMINI DATA, the Splnk appliance server that we handle. I was asked many questions.

After listening to a lecture by COX Automotive, an automobile auction management company, we asked questions about ITSI, exchanged business cards, and took pictures together. We put all kinds of data into Splunk, from security to live monitoring of auction cameras.

Several people can be seen wearing Splunk hats at the venue. This person is a specialist called Splunk Ninja certified by Splunk. We also have the Splunk Trust title for our contributions to the Splunk community. I adore it as a Splunker.

Well, it's the last day, so the sooner you go home. The number of suitcases is also amazing.

I took a walk around the neighborhood until night.

Venues and hotel bars are filled with Splunk T-shirts. It is a sight that cannot be seen in Japan. It felt like the conversation didn't end until late at night. I shared this information with our customer and had a dinner party for the launch.
