Macnica begins offering RTI Connext DDS products to the domestic mobility sector – contributing to the acceleration of next-generation mobility development through its unique total support.
Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara, hereinafter referred to as Macnica) announced today that it has entered into a domestic agency agreement with Real-Time Innovations, Inc. (Headquarters: California, USA, CEO: Stan Schneider, hereinafter referred to as RTI), a leading company in real-time communication technology, and will begin offering "RTI Connext DDS products," real-time distributed communication middleware compliant with DDS * 1, for the mobility sector. This product features "real-time capabilities," "high reliability," "safety," and "scalability," and is being used as a large-scale data communication platform for next-generation in-vehicle systems such as SDV*2, autonomous driving, and ADAS *3. Macnica will contribute to accelerating the development of next-generation mobility through its unique engineering support and fulfillment capabilities.
■Challenges
Traditional automotive development follows a waterfall model that heavily relies on specific hardware, limiting development efficiency and software scalability. Therefore, developing or incorporating new application features requires adhering to a strict waterfall development process, demanding long development periods, and necessitating development while predicting future market needs under uncertain circumstances.
Furthermore, in the mobility sector, the increasing sophistication of ADAS and autonomous driving functions necessitates the real-time processing of vast amounts of data between sensors, ECUs, and high-performance computers. In addition, conventional in-vehicle architectures present challenges such as low-latency communication and the difficulty of adding flexible functions, as well as the need to comply with post-production OTA updates * 4 and increasingly complex safety standards (ISO 26262 * 5).
■ SDV Development and the Role of RTI in the Mobility Sector
RTI is a highly reliable vendor with over 30 years of market experience and installations in more than 2 million mass-produced vehicles, holding a market share of over 70% in the global DDS market. RTI's DDS technology is used worldwide as a foundation supporting social infrastructure in various fields, including automotive (passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and construction machinery), healthcare, transportation, energy, defense, and smart cities.
RTI Connext DDS products enable software-hardware decoupling *6, significantly improving the scalability and reusability of software assets. Furthermore, they enhance market competitiveness by reducing development costs, shortening development time, and enabling continuous OTA updates through QoS *7 and security features.
Unique Total Support for the Mobility Domain with RTI and Macnica
Macnica As a technology trading company, RTI has been involved in the provision, development support, and support of semiconductors and the software that is mounted on them for the in-vehicle market. We provide one-stop support for RTI Connext DDS products from introduction study to mass production by leveraging the technical skills of our engineers cultivated through this process and our fulfillment capabilities to consistently provide everything from in-vehicle semiconductors, real-time OS, middleware, and development environments.
RTI Connext DDS products can be used for the following purposes:
● Evolution of automotive E/E architecture (shift from zone architecture to central architecture)
● SDV development
● Vehicle OS * 8 development
Both technologies will transform the electrical and electronic architecture (E/E architecture) of vehicles, making it easier to add or modify in-vehicle software even after the vehicle has been sold. As a result, the commercial value of a vehicle, which was previously determined at the completion of vehicle development, can be continuously increased even after sales begin.

*1: DDS (abbreviation for Data Distribution Service) is an international standard for communication middleware for distributed systems provided by the Object Management Group (OMG).
*2: SDV (short for Software Defined Vehicle) is a car in which the function and value of the vehicle are defined and evolve through software updates rather than hardware (mechanical parts).
*3: ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) is a general term for electronic control technologies that assist the driver in order to improve the safety and comfort of automobiles.
*4: OTA (Over The Air) update is a technology that allows you to remotely update the software and firmware of devices such as smartphones, automobiles, and IoT devices using wireless communication such as Wi-Fi or cellular networks.
*5: ISO 26262 is an international standard for ensuring functional safety in automotive electrical and electronic systems. It is a standard that applies to the entire lifecycle, from design and development to manufacturing, operation, and disposal, with the aim of avoiding hazards caused by system and component failures and reducing risks to an acceptable level.
*6: Decoupling is a concept or method that reduces the dependencies (degree of coupling) between system or software components, enabling them to be designed, developed, and operated independently.
*7: QoS (short for Quality of Service) is a general term for technologies and mechanisms that guarantee the quality of communication (speed, latency, stability, etc.) on a network.
*8: Vehicle OS is the "basic software" that powers the entire vehicle. Like smartphone operating systems (iOS and Android), it manages various in-car functions and is a core technology that supports SDV (Software-Defined Vehicles), enabling software updates and the addition of new features.
*9: GUI (short for Graphical User Interface) is a method that allows system settings and management to be performed using visual screen operations.
*10: Throughput is a performance indicator that shows the amount of data that a network or system can actually process and transfer per unit of time.
*11: Latency is a performance metric that indicates the delay time required for data processing and communication in a system or network.
