About Expolis

Expolis, LLC. is a startup that provides a data collaboration platform that helps solve regional issues. By connecting data between people and machines, and between machines, we support the revitalization of existing local industries, the creation of new companies, and problem-solving by revitalizing communities.

Recent smart city/super city initiatives are expected to promote economic circulation by digitizing cities, solving regional issues through cross-sectoral data collaboration, and creating new value. It is possible to develop services that utilize data even without a data collaboration infrastructure. However, even a slight change in the specifications of the underlying data requires new development, which incurs costs. In conventional smart city initiatives, many services were individually optimized for each region, making it difficult to expand functionality or expand horizontally to other regions.

Expolis Cloud Platform is a data collaboration platform developed with the aim of promoting regional digitalization. We aggregate a wide variety of data held by sensors from different vendors and organizations into a single platform, process it into a data structure that is easy to analyze and use, and then distribute it. This allows service developers to concentrate on development without worrying about data specifications, making it easier to utilize data across fields and organizations, and promoting the resolution of regional issues.

It is a data linkage platform that complies with the city OS components defined by the Cabinet Office's "Smart City Reference Architecture," which systematically summarizes the things that need to be considered when promoting smart cities.

② Small start possible and flexible function expansion

The vision of the Expolis Cloud Platform is to change the platform according to the vision the city wants to realize and the problems it wants to solve. Therefore, rather than implementing various functions on the data linkage platform from the beginning, we start small with the minimum necessary functions for data distribution, thereby providing a data linkage platform that can be started at low cost. By starting with the distribution and utilization of data from specific fields and gradually expanding its scope, we will build a platform tailored to the process of urban development.

③ Mechanisms to promote data utilization

In the future society, it will become even more important to skillfully integrate lifestyle and technology to recreate a more sustainable lifestyle. In order to utilize data to create a better society, we need to have the platform used by many stakeholders involved in the town, including not only the government and private sector, but also citizens. Therefore, the interface for data utilization is designed to be easily accessible on a daily basis. Furthermore, by posting not only data but also many data usage examples, we are trying to give even non-expert users an idea of how data can be used.

Case study - Give me the data platform -

Expolis Cloud Platform has started operating "Data Platform Kure" in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture. We provide 43 types of static/dynamic data related to the elements that make up cities, such as population, traffic, and weather (as of November 2023). Since it is open data and distributed as an API, anyone can develop and collaborate with applications that utilize the data.
