RTI

Accelerating software-first car manufacturing
Next-generation in-vehicle communication framework

DDS supports software evolution throughout the vehicle lifecycle

In the automotive industry, in order to increase the appeal of products to drivers, there is a need for a system that efficiently develops and evolves software and functions throughout the vehicle lifecycle, from the development stage to after-sales.
Previously, software was heavily dependent on specific hardware, limiting the efficiency of development and flexibility of updates.
RTI's DDS solution decouples software from hardware, improving the scalability and reusability of software assets, making it easier to improve the attractiveness of vehicles throughout their lifecycle.
In addition, as middleware, it has Quality of Service (QoS) and security functions, allowing application developers to focus their resources on other areas of differentiation.
This will reduce development costs, shorten development times, enable continuous post-sale updates of vehicle functions via OTA (Over The Air), and strengthen market competitiveness.
RTI Connext Drive, based on DDS, has been installed in over 2 million mass-produced vehicles in the automotive field. It is a highly reliable software framework that is ISO26262 ASIL-D certified, and is a technology that supports the development of next-generation vehicles.

RTI DDS is chosen for its wide range of applications and reliability

Product Description

The DDS standard-based communications framework software consists of the following products:

Connext Drive

Connext Drive is an in-vehicle production-grade communications framework for ADAS/AD development. It is an integrated package of Connext Professional, Connext Cert, and Connext Micro for automotive use, and is currently in use in over 2 million mass-produced vehicles.

OEM Use Cases
example)

  • Support for zonal architecture and central ECU architecture
  • Optimizing large-volume data transfer in AD/ADAS
  • Mass production support for ROS2-based applications
Connext Professional

RTI Connext Professional is a core software product that fully implements the DDS standard and is ideal for developers across a wide range of industries developing large-scale, highly reliable systems. Currently, it has a track record of over 2,000 design wins worldwide.

Key features include:

  1. Supports multiple languages (C, C++, Java, C#, Python, Ada, JavaScript, etc.) and multiple platforms (Windows, Linux, macOS, QNX, Android, and customizations available for other OSs and RTOSs)
  2. Supports multiple transports (Shared Memory, UDP, TCP, TLS, and others, customizable)
  3. Offers the most comprehensive QoS features and tools (Admin Console, System Designer, etc.)
Connext Cert

RTI Connext Cert is a DDS implementation for safety certification based on RTI Connext Micro, facilitating certification to stringent safety standards such as DO-178C DAL A (Aviation), ISO 26262 ASIL D (Automotive), and IEC 61508 SIL 3 (Industrial).

  1. Supported languages: C
  2. Supported platforms: Certified platforms including QNX OS for Safety, FreeRTOS, Linux, and Windows
  3. Supported transports: UDPv4, INTRA (intra-process communication), shared memory (platform dependent), Zero Copy, etc.
  4. QoS functions: Subset of Connext Micro (only functions required for safety certification)
Connext Micro

RTI Connext Micro is a lightweight DDS implementation designed for resource-constrained embedded systems and systems requiring formal safety certification. Like Connext Professional, it conforms to the OMG DDS standard and provides robust, predictable real-time communication.
