Purpose and objectives of the Council

In recent years, climate change countermeasures and the promotion of carbon neutrality have become global issues, and the introduction and expansion of renewable energy is urgently needed. In particular, perovskite solar cells (PSCs), which are expected to be the next generation power generation technology, have the potential to contribute to the construction of new energy infrastructure due to their high efficiency, low cost, and light weight.

However, there are many challenges to be overcome before PSC can be put to practical use in society, including promoting technological development, establishing construction and maintenance methods, complying with legal systems, and establishing collection and recycling mechanisms. To resolve these challenges and realize the early practical application of PSC, it is essential to strengthen collaboration between industry, government, and academia and promote efforts across society.

Against this background, we established the Perovskite Solar Cell Social Implementation Promotion Council to promote comprehensive efforts toward the development and popularization of PSCs. The council aims to promote the popularization of PSCs, an innovative power generation technology, through research and development, manufacturing, and demonstration, with the aim of realizing a sustainable energy society.

In addition, the council has appointed Professor Tsutomu Miyasaka of Toin University of Yokohama, the inventor of perovskite solar cells, as its chief technical advisor, responsible for managing the council's secretariat and technical affairs.
