Macnica Begins Demonstration of Perovskite Solar Cells with Increased Power Generation Efficiency in Severe Environments - Final year of the Ministry of the Environment's demonstration project, with comparisons to normal environments in addition to the deck of Osanbashi Pier in Yokohama Port -

Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter Macnica) announced today that it has begun a demonstration project in a harsh environment using perovskite solar cells (hereinafter "PSCs") with improved power generation efficiency.
In this demonstration project, the newly developed PSC units will be installed using different construction methods at two locations: Osanbashi Pier in Yokohama Port and an office building, and comparative measurements of durability and power generation capacity will be carried out in both harsh and normal environments.

About this demonstration project:
This demonstration project was selected as part of the Ministry of the Environment's Regional Co-creation and Cross-Sector Carbon Neutral Technology Development and Demonstration Project, with the project's theme being "Technology Development (Commissioned) for the Use of PSCs in Harsh Environments Such as Ports." The three-year technology development and demonstration project will begin in fiscal year 2023, with this year marking the final year. Under the guidance of Professor Tsutomu Miyasaka of Toin University of Yokohama, the inventor of perovskite solar cells, this demonstration project is being carried out by three companies: Macnica as the representative company, Pexel Technologies Inc. (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Tsutomu Miyasaka), and Reiko Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Junichi Iwai; hereinafter "Reiko"), which possesses thin-film processing technology and is responsible for the manufacture of perovskite.

About this demonstration project:
In fiscal 2024, we installed 72 PSC panels using a unique new adhesive-free construction method and confirmed their normal operation. Using a 1.5kW PSC unit designed to include storage batteries and IoT devices, we achieved power generation and steady-state power use at an output of 1kW in a heavily salt-resistant environment.
In fiscal year 2025, 60 PSC units (1kW equivalent) with improved power generation efficiency compared to last year will be installed on the deck of Osanbashi Pier in Yokohama, aiming to generate more power than last year. In addition to the severe salt environment, the same PSC units as on the deck of Osanbashi Pier in Yokohama will also be installed in a normal environment, and a comparison will be made between the severe salt environment and the normal environment.

[Outline of this demonstration]
■ Period: September 1, 2025 - February 28, 2026
■ Location: Yokohama Port Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal rooftop plaza, office building (undisclosed)
■Characteristics:
① A demonstration was conducted by installing 60 PSC units with improved power generation efficiency in two different outdoor locations.
② Data on the PSC units was measured in a heavy salt environment and a normal environment for a period of approximately six months, and their durability and power generation capacity were compared.
3) System integration with storage batteries and IoT devices
④Comparing two unique new PSC unit installation methods
