Energy savings just from painting?! Heat-insulating paint "Macnicut" provided to three Oriental Motor offices to reduce power consumption related to air conditioning - 20% reduction observed compared to before application

Macnica (headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter referred to as Macnica) announced today that it has provided its thermal insulating paint "Macnicut" to the Tsuruoka Central Plant, Tsuruoka Nishi Plant and Tsuchiura Plant of Oriental Motor Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Taito Ward, Tokyo; Representative: Kawato Eiji; hereinafter referred to as Oriental Motor).

Background
In order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, all companies are being asked to reduce CO2 emissions. Oriental Motor, which develops, manufactures, and sells precision small motors used in a variety of fields, is focusing on environmental activities in both product-related and business activities in response to social issues such as climate change and resource circulation at all domestic bases, including affiliated companies. In this environment, Tsuruoka Central and West Plants, which had been "visualizing" their own power consumption for about 10 years, were looking for ways to further save energy in their business activities.

<Challenges>
・90% of the energy consumed by our company is electricity
・We had been working towards the company-wide goal of "reducing CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2013 levels." However, due to concerns about the impact on quality, it was said that it would be difficult to reduce the power consumption of production facilities.

Under such circumstances, Tsuruoka Nishi Plant turned its attention to air conditioning, which consumes a large amount of electricity outside of production facilities. The decisive factors in adopting the heat-shielding and insulating paint "MacNicut" were that the environment for comparison was already in place and that it could be introduced without affecting production facilities or the working environment of office workers because it can be used on existing outdoor units, while being able to confirm and compare data Macnicut was required.

■ Features of Macnicut
Macnicut is a heat insulating paint that can be applied to roofs and walls, as well as to outdoor air conditioner units currently in use. By "applying heat insulating paint to the exterior of the outdoor unit," "installing an energy-saving cover," and "applying heat insulating paint to the surrounding floor surface," the electrical load of the outdoor unit can be reduced, realizing energy savings and power saving for air conditioning in summer and winter, and making it possible to reduce annual power consumption by approximately 10 to 15%.

■ Effects after implementation
Tests conducted from March 2022 confirmed a reduction in power consumption in the air conditioning equipment at the Tsuruoka Nishi facility. Experiments were conducted with systems A and B, which could be compared under the same conditions, and the results for fiscal 2023 showed that when the base value for system B was set at +15% of system A, the actual measured value for system B was -20% of the base value.

■ Future outlook
We also collected a year's worth of data at our new Tsuruoka Central office, and as the system proved highly effective, we plan to continue to roll it out and utilize it at other offices in the future.

As part of our circular economy business, Macnica develops and sells products and systems that contribute to carbon neutrality and resource circulation, and promotes corporate activities that contribute to "creating, using, and reusing energy." Through the provision of Macnicut, one of our energy-saving management solutions, we contribute to our customers' energy reduction activities.
