Reduce food waste by up to 1/50th! Macnica 's ``Garbage Drying Weight Loss Device Melt King®'' will be developed with IoT support from Kanagawa Prefecture.

Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Board Director: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter "Macnica) will start a research and development project to improve the "Meltking® waste drying and weight reduction device" together with Daiso Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Yoichi Nakanishi; hereinafter "Daiso") in October. This project has been selected for Kanagawa Prefecture's "2023 Carbon Neutral Research and Development Project Promotion Project."

■ Eliminate trash with trash. Melt King® was born from a change in thinking.
Until now, waste such as food scraps used a large amount of fuel to transport and process, which led to the generation of greenhouse gases such as CO2. While we need to find ways to reduce waste as much as possible, if we can process the waste itself from the source and turn it into renewable energy, fertilizer, and feed, then waste will no longer be garbage.
Melt King® is a device that sterilizes and reduces waste by indirectly heating waste at high temperatures and drying it while stirring. This makes it possible to reduce the volume of waste by 1/5 to 1/50. After drying, the odor is suppressed, so it can be used as raw material for fertilizer and feed, and by turning it into solid fuel, it can also be used as renewable energy. In other words, dispose of the garbage before taking it out. Therefore, the amount of fuel used for transportation and burning can be significantly reduced. It is also suitable for disposing of diapers, so it can be used in hospitals and nursing care facilities.

■Using AI to implement IoT. Reduce maintenance effort
In Kanagawa Prefecture's ``Reiwa 5 Carbon Neutral Research and Development Project Promotion Project'', Macnica and Daiso are developing the Melt King® with IoT and AI implementation. By remotely monitoring data processed by edge computers equipped with AI on the cloud, we can visualize the amount of garbage processed and CO2 reduction amount on a daily basis. Furthermore, by analyzing vibration data using AI and predicting failures in advance, maintenance can be performed at the appropriate time. Additionally, it incorporates an uninterruptible power supply and has been improved to ensure normal cooling operation even in the event of a power outage, so it can be used in areas where the power environment is not very good.
As Macnica and Daiso continue to make these improvements, they are also looking to offer the product not only in Japan, but also in countries in Asia and other countries where waste disposal is an issue.
