Macnica provides DSF Cyclone, a manufacturing site digital transformation service, to DIC's Tatebayashi Plant - Promoting digital talent development through in-house development -

Macnica (headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter Macnica) announced today that it has provided DSF Cyclone * 1, its original manufacturing site DX service, to the Tatebayashi Plant of DIC Corporation (headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Executive Officer: Ikeda Takashi; hereinafter DIC).

Background
DIC is a fine chemical manufacturer that boasts the world's top share in printing inks, organic pigments, and PPS compounds. In particular, the Tatebayashi Plant, which serves as the mother plant for the resin colorant business and produces materials that give resins high added value functions, has been promoting digitalization, especially in the production department, since around 2017, and has been promoting the transformation into a smart factory.
Due to problems with the existing log collection infrastructure and on-site structure, the factory was facing the challenge of being unable to grasp the situation efficiently at the production site. When an alert was generated from the equipment, the on-site staff had to go to the site every time, which resulted in unnecessary travel and delayed responses. In addition, although data was being collected, the environment for effective use of the data was not in place, and using past data was time-consuming, making it difficult to use the data in a satisfactory manner.

Features of DSF Cyclone
DSF Cyclone is a service that has a proven track record of implementation in various manufacturing processes and realizes the collection, accumulation, and analysis of data on equipment and workers at manufacturing sites. With its ability to efficiently collect and link data and easily utilize data onsite, it was the ideal solution for this plant, which emphasized in-house production and sought a flexible system that could quickly respond to requests for changes onsite. In addition, since there were few members in the project who were familiar with the IT field, DSF Cyclone from Macnica, which has a proven track record in data linkage and utilization, was selected because it offers a full range of proposals and support, and because a system that reduces the burden of data utilization was important to the project.

■ Effects after implementation
1. Creating a dedicated screen to improve efficiency in checking the situation:
We have created an environment where equipment operating status and abnormal occurrences can be quickly grasped via smartphone, etc. This enables appropriate personnel response and contributes to improved work efficiency.
2. Clarifying the cause of problems through data collection:
By collecting data, the cause of a problem can be identified quickly, enabling prompt countermeasures to be taken.
3. Realization of pre-planning:
It is now possible to use data to make advance plans, such as predicting the timing of raw material replenishment, contributing to more efficient production.

■ Future plans
1. Expanding in-house production and developing digital transformation talent:
By utilizing DSF Cyclone, we will develop digital talent in-house and further promote in-house development. This will enable us to establish a system that can quickly respond to changes in on-site requirements, reducing costs and enabling rapid response.
2. Promoting data utilization:
We will further advance the utilization of collected data and strengthen our efforts to improve efficiency and productivity on-site. This will enable more accurate production planning and troubleshooting, and is expected to strengthen our competitiveness.
3. System improvements and expansion:
By further improving the current system and adding new functions and data points, we will create an environment where more information can be obtained in real time.

Macnica will continue to provide DIC’s Tatebayashi Plant with technical support and assistance with data utilization using DSF Cyclone, as well as accompany the company as it works to realize its smart factory vision.
