Infoblox's "There was such a function!" Part 1

Introduction

This time, I would like to introduce some functions that are usually not very noticeable, but are convenient to use.

Extensible Attributes

Simply put, Extensible Attributes is a function that allows you to increase the number of setting data items.

For example, considering DHCP segment registration, you can add items such as "Region" and "Site" to the network setting "192.168.1.0/24". This item name can be created freely, and can be added with feeling such as "Group" or "Department". In addition to items, it is also possible to define items that can be set in a list, so you can standardize the settings. By adding items in advance, you can, for example, extract only the network of the head office, or extract DNS records managed by a specific department. In addition, Infoblox's DNS function has a function called DNS Traffic Control, which performs global load balancing by DNS. ” to DC2.

Global Search

Many of you may have used this function, but it is a function that allows you to search for specific IPs, DNS records, extensible attributes and comments from the entire Infoblox config. You can quickly jump to specific information when receiving a security incident notification for a specific IP or a failure notification.

Smart Folders

This function is a function like a folder that can be put together in a free division. For example, Infoblox's DHCP and IPAM functions are managed per network segment. IPs belonging to the same segment can be viewed on a single screen, but for example, it is not possible to view a list of Windows PCs located in multiple segments. In such a case, by using the Smart Folders function, you can search for Windows that are recognized from DHCP Fingerprint information and put them together in one folder. When the information is updated (increase or decrease of Windows PC), it is automatically reflected, so when you open Smart Folders, you can always display the latest Windows PC list. Also, if you use the Extensible Attribute introduced earlier to manage clients for each location, or use the Discover function to detect unmanaged IPs, the default folder will always display IPs that are detected as unmanaged. , so you can help manage stray devices.

Summary

"There was such a function!" Part 1 So I introduced three. Infoblox has many other detailed functions, so I would like to introduce them in "Part 2".
