Establishing security governance across the entire group and strengthening measures against information leaks are urgent priorities.
Mizuho Financial Group, one of Japan's leading financial groups, has numerous group companies both domestically and internationally, including Mizuho Bank, Mizuho Trust & Banking, and Mizuho Securities. In recent years, security incidents such as data breaches have become a serious business risk that threatens the very survival of companies. In particular, establishing a unified security governance and strengthening measures against data breaches has become an urgent necessity. "As a risk control measure against data breaches caused by internal fraud, we introduced Exabeam to Mizuho Financial Group, Mizuho Bank, Mizuho Trust & Banking, and Mizuho Securities in 2023," says Mr. Shima, Head of the Information Security Management Office, Compliance Division, Mizuho Financial Group (at the time of the interview).
Financial institutions handle vast amounts of highly confidential information, including customer personal information, account information, and transaction information. If this information is leaked, the impact on the company—including loss of customer trust, financial losses, and legal repercussions—can be immeasurable. Furthermore, misconduct by insiders is more difficult to detect than external attacks, leading to more severe damage. Therefore, it has become essential to analyze the actions of each employee in detail to detect early signs of information leaks.
