Cato Networks × IIJ Global Solutions Inc. × Macnica Networking Tour Report
Cato SASE Platform Study Session & Test Drive will be held on-site.
October 18, 2025
I participated in the annual event hosted by IIJ Global Solutions Inc., Cato Networks, and Macnica. This year's venue was the Porsche Experience Center Tokyo, a Porsche facility where Cato Networks is an official SASE sponsor. The event combined learning about the latest technologies with a special experience.
Cato Networks' Latest Trends and Use Cases
At this event, Cato Networks gave a presentation on cutting-edge technology trends and the use of Cato SASE in Porsche's racing activities.
First, there was an explanation of how the Cato SASE Platform is being used in Formula E, the electric car race held at the venue, Porsche. This is an example of how driving data acquired from racing cars is being transferred at high speed to the research and development department in Germany as development data. This was also used in a race in Japan in March.
Fault tolerance of cloud services, taking into account domestic traffic in Japan.
Cato Networks has built its own cloud platform. In recent years, there have been reports of cloud service outages due to failures in IaaS and SaaS, but the Cato SASE Platform is designed with fault tolerance in mind, featuring automatic repair functions, redundant configurations, and network path optimization. Therefore, there is no need to worry about service interruptions. The SLA also defines 99.999% uptime.
With the advent of DX, AI, unified communications, cloud shifts, and teleworking, we must now consider how to cope with the increasing network traffic and excessive access. As the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications announced in its 2025 "Summary and Estimates of Internet Traffic in Japan," both download and upload traffic have increased, and it is likely that this will have some impact on corporate network communications.
Cato Networks places great importance on the Japanese market and has released information on its Points of Presence (PoP) traffic, which are equivalent to regions in its cloud services. According to Cato Networks' report, the unique traffic increase in Japan is observed to be particularly noticeable after long holidays.
Even with a traffic spike twice as high as usual after the Golden Week holidays in May, the Cato SASE Platform continued to operate without interruption, demonstrating that we are providing cloud services that take our Japanese customers into consideration.
Access management in the era of zero trust
To address corporate outsourcing, diverse work styles, and the shortage of IT personnel due to the declining birthrate and aging population, Cato Networks offers the following access methods.
- Agent-based (Cato client)
- Agentless type (portal site)
- Browser extension (latest update adds support for SSH and RDP)
The emergence of zero-trust employees: Outsourcing is now widespread in companies, and various people, including consultants, suppliers, temporary staff, and system engineers from overseas and elsewhere, are using corporate systems within the security perimeter. There are also increasing cases of logins from devices other than company-issued terminals, and incidents have occurred where these external contract employees' terminals have been infected, and from there the corporate environment has been compromised. Cato SASE Platform's various access methods enable BYOD, external contractors, and temporary workers to work securely using their own devices while using the company environment.
From XDR to XOps - Advanced Security Utilizing AI
XDR, which detects and responds to cybersecurity threats, integrates information from the network, endpoints, and edge devices and analyzes it using an AI-powered cloud brain. Therefore, Cato Networks has integrated SASE-compliant functions from XDR as XOps. This allows network engineers and security personnel to share information, transforming from siloed incident response to an integrated one, and shortening incident response time.
Data from third-party EDRs such as CrowdStrike, Microsoft Defender, and Centinel One can also be integrated into the Cato SASE Platform via APIs, allowing for automatic and comprehensive security detection.
The background behind Cato Networks' acquisition of AIM Security
In the final session, we announced the acquisition of Aim Security.
Aim Security is an AI-based security startup that was the first company in the world to investigate and report the zero-click AI vulnerability in Microsoft 365 Copilot (EchoLeak / CVE-2025-32711).
Generative AI is rapidly gaining popularity, but its increased use is also expected to make it a target for cybersecurity. Various problems have been pointed out, including the leakage of confidential corporate information from transmitted files, the content of instruction messages, the hijacking of AI connection servers, the hijacking of AI application communication paths, and the contamination of AI applications. Aim Security plans to integrate its existing services addressing these AI-related communication issues into the Cato SASE Platform.
After the session, we took a lunch break while admiring Porsche racing cars and apparel.
Next, we exchanged opinions on user experiences, methods, and approaches to addressing challenges. Since the Cato SASE Platform is updated almost every month, it's also important to be aware of the convenient additional features.
This is an explanation of the Shadow AI dashboard that has been added to Cato CASB.
The dashboard allows companies to gain an overview of user and file transmission history, enabling them to determine which AIs are permitted and which are not, and to take appropriate measures. It also allows for reporting employee AI usage to the CIO.
Special Experience - Test Drive in a Porsche
Following the session, participants also had the opportunity to try out simulators and watch demonstration runs by active racers. This different environment from a typical conference room fostered deeper interaction among the attendees.
The customers were divided into teams and first experienced driving using a simulator.
Afterward, the team participated in a test drive and experience session. In addition to driving themselves, they also got to experience speed through a demonstration run by an active race car driver.
Macnica 's customer-facing sales representatives also participated, allowing us to deepen our relationships with customers we usually only speak with via web conferences or in meeting rooms.
Each team races with a great engine sound.
The venue also featured racing machines that you wouldn't normally see in a showroom in town, and car enthusiasts were carefully examining the undercarriages and other parts.
Finally, there was a social gathering and an awards ceremony. Perhaps because the venue was in the suburbs, the salad vegetables were fresh and delicious.
With over 40 participants, it was a fulfilling half-day that combined learning and hands-on experience.
Macnica Cato Networks team provides concrete support for protecting and optimizing your network environment through post-implementation update information and introductions of new features unique to SASE, as well as regular security update information, post-implementation operational support, and introductions of use cases for the latest features.
