1. Features of the Automotive PSOC™ 4 Series
Infineon offers the high-performance, low-power 32-bit Automotive PSOC™ 4 Series (Programmable System on Chip) for automotive microcontrollers. In addition to general microcontroller peripherals, it includes analog blocks that can program the connections of components such as capacitance sensors, operational amplifiers, and ADCs, which are the industry's most proven, as well as digital blocks that can efficiently program custom logic.
Industry's No. 1 capacitive sensor (CAPSENSE™)
The Infineon capacitive sensor (CAPSENSE™) used in the Automotive PSOC™ 4 series has shipped more than 1 billion units since its introduction in 2003, making it the industry leader. CAPSENSE™ has also undergone continuous development for over 15 years, ensuring high reliability.
- Highest SNR in its class
・High water resistance
- High noise immunity that meets automotive EMI/EMC requirements
・ Supports low power consumption
・In addition to self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance sensors, now supports inductive sensors
- Latest high-sensitivity electrostatic sensor and new differential method eliminate noise errors
Customizable Analog Front End
The Automotive PSOC™ 4 series offers operational amplifiers that can be connected directly to the ADC within the device, allowing you to configure an analog front end (AFE) without using external components, such as configuring a buffer or gain amplifier, or creating a differential amplifier circuit using two operational amplifiers.
Example of sensor system integration with flexible AFE design
Customizable digital blocks for scalability and reduced BOM costs
The Automotive PSOC™ 4 series is equipped with timers, PWM, SCB, segment LCD drivers, and smart I/O, and has a built-in LUT that can perform Boolean operations and simple logic operations. In addition, as a UDB (Universal Digital Block), it is configured with 16 16-bit flip-flops such as PLDs in two stages, and includes digital elements that can perform logic operations before and after, enabling logic operations using memory elements.
It is also possible for designers to select the functions they require and build them on software, allowing them to use it as a custom microcontroller with a mixed digital and analog functionality.
2. Feasible application examples
Examples of applications using the Automotive PSOC™ 4 Series include information terminal touch panels, touch-sensor door handles, steering switches, hands-on detection, fluid level detection, and battery monitoring sensors.
3. Automotive PSOC™ 4 Series Lineup
The Automotive PSOC™ 4 Series offers a wide lineup ranging from 32KB Flash / 4KB SRAM / 20 pins to 384KB Flash / 32KB SRAM / 100 pins, allowing you to select the core CPU, built-in peripherals, and other devices that best suit your needs.
