Motor Driver IC Seminar Appears at Texas Instruments Workshop!

Macnica Fuji Electronics holds several seminars on power supplies and analog products from Texas Instruments (TI). Here are some recommended points for the beginners' stepping motor driver IC seminar held in May 2018, which we would like to introduce to you.

What is a stepping motor in the first place?

A stepping motor is characterized by being easily controlled by the pulse signal input to the motor. In other words, it is good at controlling the rotation angle like "how much to rotate with one pulse", and it is used for the following applications.

Application example

  • Printer: move the head to feed the paper
  • Camera: Control the lens and adjust the brightness of the subject to be photographed
  • Air conditioner: Control the louver that adjusts the direction of the wind
  • Pachinko: Move the slot reels and stop them in place

There are other types of motors, such as AC motors and DC motors. If you want to know more about the differences between motors and motor/driver types, please click here.

Recommended for those involved in the design of stepping motors

This seminar is recommended for those who have decided to use stepping motors for their applications and specifications, but are new to design.
The content is intended for those who have some knowledge of the differences between motor types and their uses, and who can actually start designing stepping motors.

The first half explains "What is a stepping motor?" and the second half explains "What is a stepping motor driver IC?"

Basics of stepping motors (first half)

  • Rotation Principle and Basic Structure of Stepping Motor
  • Excitation method
  • real stepper motor
  • Dynamic characteristics of stepping motor

Fundamentals of stepping motor driver ICs (second half)

  • What is a motor driver?
  • Explanation of each function of the motor driver

Non-manufacturer-specific content

The basic concept of stepping motor control is the same for all manufacturers, so even those who use motor driver ICs other than those manufactured by TI can refer to it.

In the second half of the seminar, some TI products will be introduced, but you will also be able to see the unique functions of TI products that are not found in motor driver ICs from other companies. I would appreciate it.
