What is BroadR-Reach?

BroadR-Reach is a data transmission technology for in-vehicle Ethernet developed by Broadcom. The OPEN Alliance SIG, which was established with the aim of promoting the widespread adoption of Ethernet-based in-vehicle connectivity, is gaining popularity. The OPEN Alliance was formed to address the industry's requirement to improve safety, comfort and entertainment in automobiles and to significantly reduce network complexity and wiring costs. Broadcom BroadR-Reach® technology, promoted by the OPEN Alliance SIG, delivers high-performance bandwidth of 100Mbps over unshielded single twisted-pair cable. By eliminating the need for expensive and cumbersome shield wiring, automakers will be able to significantly reduce connection costs and wiring burden.

Synchronous transmission of camera images by BroadR-Reach

Demo overview

Broadcom's BroadR-Reach is used for each transmission line, and twisted pair cable transmission (max 100Mbps) is used. All Talkers and Listeners achieve time synchronization with BroadR-Reach SW by IEEE 802.1AS of NEC communication system. Talker x 3 camera images are transferred to the Listener monitor with low delay.
