JANOG44 Meeting in Kobe [Event Report]

Macnica and Macnica exhibited at JANOG44 Meeting in Kobe.

In this article, I will introduce how I participated as an exhibitor.

JANOG44 Meeting will be held in Kobe!

JANOG is an abbreviation of JApan Network Operators' Group, and JANOG44 Meeting was held from July 24th (Wednesday) to 26th (Friday), 2019 at the Kobe International Exhibition Hall, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. The theme of JANOG44 this time is "The One".

The novelty of working on something for the first time and "turning 0 into 1"

The challenge of "remaking things from scratch"

Continuity for "cultivating 1" created

And the bond that everyone "becomes one"

Macnica exhibited at JANOG44 with such meaning under a "certain theme."

The theme of the exhibition booth is "Full support for 'DIY' of Hikari Tsushin!"

Our main products "FINISAR", "MultiLane", "Tibit ” company products were exhibited.

Optical modules other than network equipment vendor genuine optical modules are called third-party optics. The trend in recent years is to shift from entrusting the operation of transceiver modules to system integrators to using third-party optics. FINISAR is a third-party optics that can be used with peace of mind, such as being adopted as a genuine product by many equipment vendors around the world. MultiLane is a measuring instrument vendor that optical module vendors such as FINISR use when actually developing is. This time, we have carefully selected and introduced products that can help you with "DIY" of optical communication.

We finished setting up the booth on the first day, and finally opened at 9:30 on the second day the next day!
The crowd was sparse right after the opening, but the guides were excited as they were expecting the event to start soon.

[FINISAR] 400G QSFP-DD / 200G QSFP56 Optical Transceiver and WaveAnalyzer

We had the opportunity to see FINISAR's latest products, the 400G QSFP-DD and 200G QSFP56 optical transceiver modules, and the portable optical spectrum analyzer WaveAnalyzer.
Some customers looked closely at the 400G QSFP-DD module and commented, "The module housing is longer than QSFP," while others touched the Wave Analyzer screen to check its usability and held it in their hands to check its weight. There were also occasions when customers asked Macnica 's technical staff for specific advice about problems that were actually occurring in their own company's network infrastructure. We talked about what causes they could infer from an engineer's perspective.

Materials distributed on the day can be requested from the following page.

[MultiLane] I2C live diagnostic measurement module

MultiLane's I2C live diagnostic module is a measurement module that enables I2C control while maintaining communication in the event of an optical module communication trouble. Some customers commented, "It's nice to be able to check the signal status in real time by plugging it into a switch."
Customers using third-party optics will be able to isolate the problem on their own in the event of a failure. In preparation for this, an increasing number of customers have their own minimum measuring instruments. MultiLane is a manufacturer that can provide measuring instruments with the minimum necessary functions at a low price, and we believe that the field of activity will expand in the future.

[Tibit] World's first! SFP+ module with built-in 10G PON OLT function

Tibit exhibited an SFP+ PON OLT module with an OLT PON MAC chip built into the SFP+ module. After all, the customers were astonished by the world's first Tibit's overwhelming technical capabilities. The image of existing OLT equipment was that of a chassis type with a large number of ports. Among customers considering the introduction of 10G PON communication, local companies have a limited number of users, and constructing a PON network by installing a large chassis OLT has been a barrier to introduction. rice field. The Tibit SFP+ PON OLT module is ideal for customers who want to easily start 10G PON communication from a small number of ports, and we have received many comments that this is easy to introduce.

Materials distributed on the day can be requested at the end of the page.

What I felt after participating in JANOG for the 4th time

The first exhibitor was JANOG41. At that time, the name of the product manufacturer was unknown, and customers still did not accept the use of third-party optics because they were buying genuine products. At this year's JANOG44, the number of customers familiar with FINISAR, which we have been introducing since the beginning of the exhibition, has increased, and while we are introducing a wide range of optical communication products including MultiLane and Tibit, we have introduced an unprecedented "introduction". We received a lot of questions based on consideration. I realized that the use of third-party optics has penetrated the market.

At this booth, we introduced the "Next Generation Data Center Network Infrastructure Construction Seminar" scheduled to be held on September 4, 2019, and handed out a novelty bag to those who applied. The tote bag with illustrations of FINISAR products was very popular for its pop finish. If you see a QSFP module on the street and think, "This is a FINISAR Wave Analyzer!", you're definitely a FINISAR fan. We would be more than happy if our customers were excited about the bag.

Mogu Mogu Time with famous Kobe sweets

The most exciting part of the event was the snack time, when Kobe's famous sweets were served twice at 11:00 and 3:00. Uguisu Ball, Gaufre, Mont Loire Chocolate, etc. Many people must have been surprised by the deliciousness of eating them on the spot, and used them as souvenirs on their way home from business trips.

There were long lines for roll cakes and puddings, and Macnica members also lined up to get some and munch on them during their breaks. Attracted by the sweet smell, we tried to line up a little earlier than snack time, but the venue manager told us, "Not yet!" and we had to come back. It was delicious.

I can't stop expanding my connections! Social gathering

On the evening of the second day, the social gathering held at the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Kobe was very lively with a large number of participants. Delicious drinks and sumptuous meals were served, and everyone, including FINISAR users, system integrators, and manufacturers, had a great time. I had a hard time finding the person I was looking for in the crowded venue...

However, at the get-together, we were able to talk even closer, and we were able to have more in-depth conversations than usual, such as checking on the recent situation, talking about new businesses, and talking about visiting the US and factory tours with customers. I was introduced to people in upper management that I would not normally be able to meet, and I was introduced to customers of my customers, and I could not stop expanding my personal connections! Once again, I felt that it was a valuable place.

Hokkaido next time! JANOG45 Meeting in Hokkaido

We hope you enjoyed our look at the JANOG44 event. JANOG has a unique atmosphere of frank conversation that is not found at other exhibitions, and we hope we have been able to convey even a little of that atmosphere. The next event will be held in Hokkaido, and we at Macnica will also be participating. We look forward to seeing you all again next time.
