"Himalaya" is a series of industrial DC/DC converters provided by Analog Devices.

It is nicknamed the "Himalayan Mountains" because it is "capable of high voltage input" and "doesn't get hot", with the 8,000-meter-class mountains lined up and always cool.

Himalayan Reason 1 ~ Supports up to 76V. Easy to use at "high places"

A major feature of the Himalaya series is its extremely wide input range of 4.0V to 76V. We have a lineup that can handle much higher voltages than general industrial DC/DC converters, such as up to 60V and 76V. It is robust enough to withstand large voltage fluctuations, making it ideal for industrial applications that require wide input.

Additionally, the guaranteed operating temperature of the Himalaya series is "-40 ℃ to 125 ℃", making it compatible with an extremely wide temperature range. It can be safely installed in industrial machinery that is often used in harsh environments, from extremely cold to extremely hot. It is also possible to guarantee a wide range of operating temperatures for the product body in which the IC is embedded.

The package has a pin pitch of 0.5mm. A variety of protection features are also incorporated, making the solution capable of achieving superior performance in industrial applications.

Another feature of the Himalaya series is industry-leading conversion efficiency of up to 92 %.

The power conversion loss is very small, and the temperature rise of the IC itself can be suppressed. This achieves "always cool" operation like the Himalayas.

Industrial machines that use high voltages and large currents cause the heat of ICs to be transferred to the substrate, causing nearby ICs to malfunction and reduce measurement accuracy. The Himalaya series, which does not easily generate heat, has little effect on other ICs and enables a high degree of design freedom. It is also ideal for measurement functions where the heat of the board tends to lead to a decrease in accuracy.

The Himalaya series has both a wide input of up to 76V and a high efficiency of up to 92 %.

"MAX17577", a small inverted output device capable of "wide input up to 60V" and "output of 1A"

Now, let's specifically introduce the Himalaya series solutions. One example of a device is the MAX17577​ ​DC/DC converter with built-in FET. It supports a wide input voltage of up to 60V while achieving an output current of up to 1A.

Its feature is that it has a wide input range of 4.5V to 60V and can invert the output to negative voltage. The package size is small at 3.1 x 3.1 x 0.8 mm, allowing it to be mounted in tight board spaces.

The operating temperature range is-40 °C to 125 °C, and the Himalaya series is robust. Achieves maximum peak efficiency of 90.6 %. It has industrial features such as CISPR32 (EN55032) Class B compliance, configurable EN/UVLO thresholds, and overtemperature protection.

Suitable for applications such as high voltage telecom power supplies, industrial control equipment (PLC), building automation, air conditioning systems (HVAC), and general purpose high voltage power supplies.

In recent years, more and more people are looking for space-saving module-type ICs with built-in inductors due to board space restrictions and shortened development periods.

For such people, we recommend the module type lineup, which integrates peripheral components such as inductors into a single package while maintaining the merits of the "high and cool" Himalaya. One example is the step-down DC/DC module MAXM17546.

Although it is a module type, it is one of the few solutions in the world that simultaneously achieves "wide input up to 42V" and "output up to 5A". The small 9 × 15 × 4.3 mm package allows easy placement in limited board space.

In general, modules with both wide input and large output are difficult to develop, and size and cost tend to be sacrificed. However, the Himalaya series modules achieve a size and cost that are easy to adopt while maintaining both functionality. This module achieves wide input, large current, and miniaturization all at the same time, making it easy to adopt even for industrial machines with small housings.
