JANOG58 Exhibition Report
Held over three days from July 15th (Wed) to 17th (Fri), 2026, "JANOG58" took place in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, under the theme of "Technological Maturity and Passing on to the Next Generation." It became one of Japan's leading technology community events, attracting a large number of network operators, telecommunications carriers, data center operators, and system integrators.
This article will introduce the events and exhibits from that day.
Exhibition theme: "From black Box to white Box"
At Macnica booth, we showcased open networking solutions and introduced the latest technologies such as AI data center switches and Network Copilot. We also displayed actual Edgecore products, which have been adopted by Ehime CATV, and Credo's AEC solution, attracting the attention of visitors.
During the event, through booth exhibits and interactions with visitors, we strongly felt the high level of interest in high-speed networks for AI clusters, low-power consumption technologies, and operational automation, as well as the expanding market demand.
*What is Macnica 's Open Networking?
This solution allows you to build a network system by combining the most suitable equipment, without being dependent on a specific vendor. Macnica provides comprehensive technical support and assistance.
Exhibited Products
White Box switch (Edgecore)
Edgecore ECS4100 Series ★ Adopted by Ehime CATV
This is an enterprise-grade L2 switch primarily configured with 1GbE ports.
The fanless design ensures quiet operation and low power consumption. Suitable for edge environments such as offices, retail stores, and hotels, it offers space-saving design, easy installation, and stable network operation.
Edgecore AS7726-32X (DCS204)
This is a high-density data center switch equipped with 32 x 100GbE ports.
Supporting spine-leaf configurations, it flexibly handles large-scale traffic. Its open network design provides a highly scalable and operationally efficient network infrastructure.
Cable (Credo)
Thisis an AEC (Active Electrical Cable) manufactured by Credo.
One of the key features of Credo's AEC is its low likelihood of link flapping. Link flappingrefers to the phenomenon where a port briefly goes down and then immediately comes back up.
In typical network environments, link flaps rarely have a significant impact. However,in environments where many nodes work together, such as AI clusters, training processes can be interrupted or resynchronized, which can have a significant impact on AI learning time.To address this issue,Credo's AEC is attracting attention for its ability to suppress increases in AI training time caused by link flaps.
ZeroFlap Opticsis an optical transceiver that supports the stable operation of GPU clusters. In a GPU cluster environment, link flapping can cause a temporary interruption of the learning process, potentially having a significant impact on both operational and business aspects. ZeroFlap Optics features advanced status monitoring capabilities that provide advance visibility into the link health of optical modules. This enables planned module replacement before failures become apparent. As a result, it ensures stable operation of the GPU cluster and continuous performance improvement.
Visualization, operation tools (Aviz Networks)
NetworkCopilot™ R1.6:
Network Copilot™ is a conversational AI platform compatible with a wide range of switches, network operating systems, and cloud environments. It supports multi-vendor environments including Cisco, Arista, SONiC, Palo Alto, and Fortinet, and connects to existing controllers, monitoring systems, ITSM (ticket management), and knowledge bases via a wealth of connectors. In addition to natural language querying and analysis, the Agent SDK allows for the development of custom agents. It also supports custom LLM selection and deployment in on-premises, cloud, and private, internet-offline environments.
ONES 3.1:
This integrated suite supports the deployment and operation of multiple NOS systems such as SONiC/Cumulus in multi-vendor environments. Version 3.1 adds an AI Assistant for easy access to network health and inventory data, and a Multi-Site function that allows for visual identification of network anomalies at each site on a map. Intuitive GUI orchestration is also available for small-scale networks.
Open Packet Broker: The industry's first packet broker that can be deployed on any white Box switch.
It allows you to forward required network packets to your monitoring and security tools at a fraction of the cost.
Aviz Service Nodes: A next-generation network observability solution that provides real-time visibility, enhanced security, and operational efficiency.
This makes it easier for all organizations, from telecommunications carriers (Telcos) to enterprises, to analyze data and reduces the amount of data to be analyzed.
Meeting diverse needs through the expanding possibilities of white Box
Macnica Open Networking At the booth, 3 We were pleased to have many network engineers, service providers, and data center operators visit us throughout the day.
There was particular interest in the following topics, and we were able to exchange many opinions.
AI/ML ・ GPU High-speed network supporting the cluster
800G Ethernet Next-generation data center network utilizing
・SONiC Open networking utilizing
• Flexible network architecture that avoids vendor lock-in
• Automation and observability of network operations
In recent years, the scale of networks and AI As workloads increase, there is a growing demand for more flexible and scalable infrastructure in addition to traditional network operations centered around dedicated appliances.
This exhibition aims to address the following needs: "We want to utilize our own proprietary applications over the network," "We want to build a highly flexible environment for research purposes," "We want to start with a small-scale configuration," and "In the future..." AI We received various inquiries, such as "We want to implement operational monitoring using [this technology]."
As an option that can meet these diverse needs, SONiC We are keenly aware of the growing expectations for open networking utilizing white-Box switches, and we hope to continue deepening technical exchanges with the community to contribute to the realization of a flexible and sustainable network infrastructure.
Summary
We were able to exchange many opinions on expectations for network technologies supporting AI infrastructure and the challenges faced in operational settings, and we ourselves learned a great deal.
We will continue to value our connections with the open technology community and strive to provide even better network solutions.
