2024/06/24(Mon)
The long-awaited user meeting was held for the first time in three years! Introducing the latest information on GitHub Copilot and user cases
We held a user meeting at Grand Front Osaka on February 7, 2024. This was the first offline event hosted by our company since the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was a small-scale event, but the venue was packed with so many participants that every seat was filled, making it a huge success from start to finish.
We have received many inquiries about GitHub Copilot since its release in February 2023. At this user conference, we introduced the latest features of GitHub Copilot and its future roadmap, and invited users from user companies who are actually using the service to speak about their use cases.
This article provides a brief overview of each session.

Introducing GitHub usage cases
Three companies, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Subaru, and Macnica, spoke about their use of GitHub Enterprise.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries uses GitHub to support product development

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Digital Innovation Division, DPI Department
Mr. Takakazu Hiromasa, Foundation Group
SoE Group Toshinori Fukuda
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. is a comprehensive engineering company that provides cutting-edge technology for land, sea, air, and space, across the fields of industry, logistics, energy, and defense. They introduced the products they are currently developing in their Digital Innovation Headquarters DPI Department, and the reasons why they chose GitHub Enterprise Cloud. They are promoting the rollout within the company based on the philosophy that they need to conform to global standards, and shared how they are creating a development system that can detect vulnerabilities early by shifting left.
He introduced how they are shifting left and gave examples of using Dependabot and code scanning. "By creating a system that allows the person in charge to detect vulnerabilities at the pull request stage, we were able to shorten the overall lead time. Also, the alerts raised allowed us to notice minor language specifications that would not have been noticed in normal coding."
Things SUBARU Lab paid attention to when introducing GitHub

Deputy Director of SUBARU Lab and Chief of ADAS Development Department
Mr. Takashi Kanai
SUBARU CORPORATION is a comprehensive manufacturer that manufactures, sells, and services automobiles and aircraft. When working with external developers on joint development projects, SUBARU previously exchanged files. This meant that merging files into the company's repository took time, so the company introduced GitHub, which allows for smooth collaboration with external parties.
He gave us specific details about points that companies need to consider and investigate when introducing SaaS, such as how to proceed with security checks and enabling IP restrictions.

Case study in Macnica development department

Macnica Innovation Strategy Business Headquarters
Digital Business Development Department, Product Planning and Development Division
Mori Osamu
This department does not sell semiconductors or IT solutions, but instead develops various products at the request of customers. Based on past failures, we asked him to tell us in detail what he pays attention to when developing products and how he came to use GitHub.
The key to success is to "create first." He spoke passionately about GitHub, a product that matches that sense of speed.
The social gathering was a huge success until the very end!
Many people also participated in the social gatherings held after each session.
There was active information exchange among users, particularly among the speakers.
