Macnica provides Saviynt to Honda, supporting enhanced global ID governance – building an ID/authority management platform for over 280,000 users and approximately 1,600 applications, achieving access control and operational automation.
Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter referred to as Macnica) today announced that it has provided its IGA (Identity Governance and Administration) solution, Saviynt, to Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Board Director and CEO: Toshihiro Mibe; hereinafter referred to as Honda). This has enabled Honda to build an ID/authority control and governance platform for over 280,000 users and approximately 1,600 applications, thereby strengthening ID governance on a global scale.
■Background
At Honda, a global and diversified business, multiple authentication platforms coexist across different organizations and locations, such as headquarters and research laboratories, resulting in dispersed and complex ID management and access control. In addition, the existing environment was primarily on-premise, requiring significant effort for version upgrades and compatibility maintenance. Furthermore, access control related to HR events such as hiring, transfers, and departures relied heavily on manual processes, sometimes resulting in delays in implementation, posing challenges in terms of operational efficiency, speed, and security.
Furthermore, for users, the system lacked convenience, requiring them to log in from different screens for each application, and the reliance on passwords alone for authentication revealed significant security risks.
In light of these circumstances, Honda formulated a "seven-tiered" security strategy, positioning the strengthening of its authentication infrastructure as one of its core components. While considering the modernization of its authentication infrastructure through centralized ID management, Honda recognized the need for governance that included the management of complex authorization models and ID lifecycles, leading them to consider implementing IGA (Information Gathering Authority).
■ Reasons for selecting Saviynt
After recognizing the need for IGA products and conducting a thorough evaluation, Honda adopted Saviynt for the following reasons:
- Scalability capable of supporting large-scale environments (over 280,000 users)
- High flexibility based on a complex permission model
- Cloud-native architecture
- Optimization of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in the medium to long term
The deciding factor was that it wasn't just a replacement for an authentication service, but could serve as a core infrastructure supporting the identity lifecycle and authority governance for the future.
■ Effects of implementation
By modernizing and integrating our authentication infrastructure, we have achieved enhanced ID governance on a global scale. Users can now access various applications under a unified login experience, significantly improving convenience. In addition, the improvement of ID/authority governance has automated most tasks such as granting and changing permissions and inventory management, which is expected to reduce the workload that previously required a great deal of manpower.
Furthermore, the ability to quickly generate necessary audit reports will streamline audit responses, allowing the security department to focus on higher-value tasks.

■Future Outlook
Honda is looking to achieve integrated governance that includes non-human identities such as service accounts and machine IDs, as well as privileged access management (PAM). They plan to utilize Saviynt as a core platform to support strengthened governance and operational automation across the entire global network.
In addition to providing product support, Macnica also assisted with standardizing data quality across countries and regions and integrating it into Saviynt. Moving forward, through the provision of Saviynt, we will continue to support the visualization and control of ID management in Japanese companies, contributing to both strengthened ID governance and improved operational efficiency.
