Macnica Macnica Attack Surface Management, an in-house developed solution, has won the No. 1 ASM market share for the fourth consecutive year

Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara, hereinafter referred to as Macnica) is a report by Macnica Attack Surface Management (hereinafter referred to as Macnica ASM), which is provided by Macnica, and is a report by ITR Co.^{, Ltd.* 1} We are pleased to announce today that we have achieved the No. 1 market share (FY2022, FY2023, FY2024, FY2025 forecast, and sales by vendor) for the fourth consecutive year.

■The growing importance of ASM
In recent years, cyber attacks have been increasing at many companies, with attackers targeting vulnerable public assets in an attempt to infiltrate. In particular, a ransomware attack on a major Japanese company in September 2025 was carried out via network equipment at another company's base, encrypting multiple servers and severely impacting corporate activities.
In response to this situation, Macnica investigated the number of servers in operation that are at high risk of being exploited as a route for ransomware infection ^{* 2} and found that there are 51,193 servers in operation in Japan. Of these, 46,290 are remote desktops (RDPs) and 4,903 are VPN devices that have left unattended vulnerabilities that put them at high risk of being compromised by ransomware groups.
As such, there are still many vulnerabilities in carelessly exposed RDP and VPN devices and servers, and the number of attacks exploiting these vulnerabilities is rapidly increasing. This has made it increasingly important for companies to have a comprehensive understanding of their publicly exposed assets and to continuously manage and address risks through Attack Surface Management (ASM), and an increasing number of users and companies are considering its implementation.

■What is Macnica ASM?
Macnica was one of the first Japan to offer its in-house developed ASM solution in June 2021. Macnica ASM provides accurate and comprehensive research by leveraging proprietary AI-driven tools that leverage the knowledge of the Macnica Security Research Center, as well as expert research when needed. It is now possible to identify assets including overseas bases, such as domains and stray servers that customers do not know themselves, and effectively deal with high-risk assets based on unique risk indicators that take into account attacker trends.
In addition, we are focusing on expanding our capabilities, such as providing a patent-pending method for securely identifying vulnerabilities in VPN devices from the outside and a web portal designed specifically for ASM operations.

In this survey, Macnica ASM ranked first in ASM sales revenue, with a market share of 15.0% in fiscal 2024 and a forecast share of 15.2% in fiscal 2025 ^{* 1}.

Cyberattacks that exploit publicly available assets are expected to continue. Macnica will continue to provide Macnica ASM to many companies and strive to reduce the probability of incidents caused by externally available assets by even 1%.
