For designers seeking greater system code storage than 512Mb NOR Flash products in the ever-growing code capacity for embedded devices, Winbond offers cost-effective We provide high serial NAND products. NAND flash is more cost effective at 512Mb and above compared to NOR flash which is cost effective at a small capacity.

Advantages of Serial NAND Flash

NAND flash memory requires a controller capable of detecting and correcting errors that occur in specific memory locations, managing memory blocks containing errors, and relocating them to error-free locations when errors occur.

These serial NAND families have built-in ECC (Error Correction Code) to provide consecutive good blocks (bad block management), thus offloading them from the controller. Typically in many systems, code stored in flash is transferred to DRAM to speed code execution in the processor.

System designers are always looking for products that can transfer code from flash to DRAM very quickly. Winbond's "Continuous Read" feature transfers NAND contents to DRAM very quickly.
