We will introduce ON Semiconductor's ideal diode control IC.

What is an ideal diode control IC?

The ideal diode control IC is an NMOS controller with reverse polarity protection and ideal diode functionality, and an optional high-side switch function.
It is intended to replace power rectifier diodes and mechanical power switches, reducing losses and providing a low forward voltage.

This controller works in conjunction with one or two​ ​N-channel MOSFETs to control the on/off state of the transistor based on the state of the Enable pin and the input-to-drain voltage polarity.

As shown in the figure below, when the drain pin is connected to the load, the application works in ideal diode mode, and when the drain pin is connected to ground, it works in reverse polarity protection mode.

How to improve EMC immunity

The datasheet for this product recommends using the application example and PCB layout shown below to improve EMC immunity.



An additional capacitor is connected between the gate and GND. This CG capacitor also serves to limit the inrush current.
Additionally, RG_Q1 and RS suppress any oscillations that may occur in the output voltage during start-up.

The NCV68061 is in a TSOP-6 package, and the NCV68261 is in a WDFNW6 package.
Both products can withstand load dump pulses of 60V and negative transient voltages of-40V.
