Product Summary

PIM is an abbreviation for Power Integrated Module, and it is a product made by modularizing and packaging several silicon dies with resin. A type of power semiconductor that supports high voltage and high current. The difference with IPM (Intelligent Power Module) is that IPM also has a built-in gate driver, but PIM does not have a built-in gate driver. And PIM is more specialized for high power.

By using PIM, the heat dissipation structure can be optimized, miniaturizing the application, and simplifying the design. Especially for applications above 10kW, there are product lines dedicated to specific topologies such as traction inverters that turn the wheels of a car, high voltage DCDCs and boost PFCs. In addition, the elements inside are also diverse, such as Si MOSFETs, IGBTs, and SiC MOSFETs.

Module for traction inverter

The left side is a 2in1 half-bridge type, and the right side is a 6in1 three-phase full-bridge type.

It can be considered with a power of 100 kW or more.

High voltage PFC circuit

The optimal PIM can be considered for various PFC topologies.

Application benefits include T-Type NPC and I-Type NPC modules that are easy to install and allow for reduced inductor and heat sink size. Boost modules enable compact design with high switching frequency and can achieve excellent efficiency in bypass mode.

PFC+Inverter circuit

CIB circuit is an acronym for Converter, Inverter, and Brake circuits. You can select only the necessary parts and consider PIM.

One of ONSEMI's strengths is that it owns all of the devices used in PIMs, such as IGBTs, MOSFETs, and fast recovery diodes (FRDs), just like IPMs.
