In recent years, production sites have been required to improve productivity due to the decline in the working population, improve inefficient production processes, and monitor the operating status of manufacturing equipment. In such a situation, factory automation (FA) and other in-factory IoT are attracting attention due to Industry 4.0 and other trends. Among them, IO-Link is considered to be an important communication technology and is a 1:1 communication protocol defined in the international standard IEC61131-9 (※1). The ND1160 makes it easy to achieve IO-Link compatibility, which is essential for future sensor applications.
The ND1160 incorporates the minimum functions required for IO-Link communication and is available in a small, thin package (DFN3030-8-GG, WLCSP-12-ZA1). By combining it with optimal external components, it can achieve high-precision performance. Depending on the input terminal logic, high-side, low-side, and push-pull operation can be set, and the status of the connected device can be detected.
In addition, it supports the latest 230.4kbps standard, has a large current capacity (200mA) and a wide operating voltage range (8.5V to 36V).It also has built-in functions such as overcurrent flag/protection (<500mA), reverse current protection, thermal shutdown, and wake-up detection.

Supports 4.8kbps, 38.4kbps, and 230.4kbps for high-speed communication.
2. The industry's smallest size with only the bare minimum of functionality
It incorporates the minimum functions required for IO-Link communication, and eliminates the LED driver, LDO, DC/DC converter, DI/DO dedicated terminals (digital input/output terminals), etc., achieving the industry's smallest size (WLCSP-12-ZA1) (*2). In addition, the flexible external components allow it to be used flexibly and easily with any type of sensor.
